Student Invites

Student Invites

I wasn't going to but now I think I should.

I teach high school so obviously inviting 150 juniors and seniors are out of the question, but I do have a small group of amazing students that are also officers in my club and they bought me a wedding gift yesterday and now I want to invite them.

Does anyone have the wording to invite students?

Also, do you think its bad that I 'm getting married at my RH and will invite them there?

Do you think my RH has a problem with inviting people to the ceremony and not the reception?

TIA

I have been to weddings of teachers and SO MANY of their students came, but both were at a church. I don't know how it goes with RHs. I can't see why the RH would have a problem with them coming to only the ceremony, how would the RH even know that those few people aren't reception guests. As for the invites, maybe you can even just ask them formally in person. Sorry I am not much help!

I dont think its a bad thing to invite students. The RH might have a problem because they are serving alcohol and then have to check IDs etc. Talk to your RH and see what they think.

You can word your invites and say ceremony information only. good luck

RH says no problem, let them know how many chairs are needed...

I think its kind of weird since its at the RH - I think its a bit awkward to invite people to the ceremony and then say goodbye when everyone else is staying for the reception. If it were me I wouldn't do it...

They're kids. they''ll be just so happy to be a part of the ceremony and they'll probably be able to grab a bit from the CH and stay for a few minutes.

I kinda agree with this. I feel like it might cause some confusion when the Ceremony ends. They might not even realize that they're just invited for the Ceremony, ya know? I feel like If i got an invite for a wedding when I was in HS, I would've been like Oo! a wedding! and not even realize the difference b/t the Ceremony & Reception.

I want FH to invite some of his students, even if it's just some of his private students who he's had for years and his response was 'I'm not inviting dirtbag kids to my wedding' and I said 'No baby not the dirtbags, the nice ones!' He feels like it's a liability because we're having the ceremony right before the cocktail hour and reception back to back and with alcohol around and stuff he just wants to steer clear, etc. I almost asked one of the kids in his high school jazz band to play piano for my cocktail hour because he's incredible and it looks like our 4 (count 'em 4!) choices are falling through or unreliable. I thought about surprising him and having the hs marching band show up and play at the rehearsal dinner or something funny like that. I know the co-director, he'd totally do it for me!

Re: Student Invites

the reason you can't inivite them to the reception is that I'm not paying $200 pp to invite students.

Also, I don't think there will be confusing. I am not opening this up to all my students. These are a select few that are officers in my club and I have a special relationship with them that I can explain it is for the ceremony only and after having a bit to eat at the cocktail hour, they will have to leave. They are getting a special invite that says ceremony and I have other teachers there that will help give them guidance on what is appropriate and not. These are AP high school business students. I think it will go just fine.

I don't really think you even need to give them an actual invitation...just sit them down and say 'You guys are important to me and I want you to come and watch me get married' and just explain it to them.

I agree.. or print up something small for them.

BUT...

make sure that they promise you they aren't going to tell anyone else. Or else you could end up with a lot more students then you expected or want.

i think it will be fine...hey its your wedding so you do what you want. i just have never received an invite to a wedding ceremony alone and not the reception as well but then again, i was never invited to something like that when i was in high school. my teachers kept it more private and family oriented. i remember throwing a small surprise party for a teacher getting married in class but she didn't invite any of us...we just had a blast that day and she was extremely grateful. just be careful that you aren't crossing any lines or anything (there are a lot of rules whether the students are AP high school or not) maybe speak with their parents or something? even though they are high school, they are still under 18. just so that you have parental permission...you wouldn't want word getting out and having some weird school rule or code or something being broken. its a really nice idea...i am just saying be careful but i do like the idea!

it's no secret I'm getting married. I teach a law class and we have been talking contracts all year. All my students know when and where I'm getting married.

I know some teachers are so concerned that students know your private life, but they are also very respectful of it. I guess it all depends on your students and where you teach.

I printed up a little something to give them with direction cards.

Here is a link to a thread about inviting students. It also has a really cute saying that you could use to invite them.

Re: Student Invites

A LOT of people invite people to the cermeony but not to the reception. People do it all the time. It isn't weird; people understand that you can't afford to invite too many people. My friend got married last year and her students came to the ceremony with their parents (at the RH) and then left. It isn't strange at all. It is no stranger than it being at a church where people can come who are invited to the wedding
