Students are soo stupid!!

I teach developmental writing. I am here grading the drafts to their research papers and the completely plagiarized!! I went through one students and he copied and pasted from over 10 sources. No original ideas

So i get to the next one, and completely from Encarta online!

I told the students, 'As easy as it is for you to copy and paste a paper together, it is as easy for me to type in one of your sentences to see exactly where it came from.'

Do they really think I am not going to check?

UGH!! Where is our youth going to?!?!?!?!?

The U.S. ihas been as strong as it it becuase of innovation...without original thoughts there is no innovations.

Are you going to report them for plagarism? I guess they think you wouldn't check.

These are college freshmen!

I am giving them an F.. Their final papers are due next week. They have one week to due a new paper on a new topic (they chose whatever they wanted to research). I was going to give an Incomplete and give them time to redo a paper.. but I think thats being too nice

Am just being really nice but aww dont fail them for the class, just fail them for this assignment and make them re-do it

i used to plagarize all the time, even in college but i wouldnt copy word for word - i would always change words, add words, or just get an idea of what to say - i stole all of my ideas from online - and i ALWAYS got A's - i was very sneaky and careful because its so easy to get caught - especially when you are stealing sentences word for word - they have to learn to add their own twist to it

I would too!! I would read essays students did and use that as 'research' and put it in my own words

have they learned about quoting yet? LOL. thats too bad they totally copied!! I can see why you are frustrated!

Yup I spend 2 classes (3 hours) on quoting, citing...etc.

Ha- my sister is a math teacher and for extra credt told the her 9th graders to write a 1 page paper on a mathematician and almost half the class plagiarized and one kid copied and pasted the whole thing and he didn't even take the time to take out those underlines that website might have on some words, he didn't unbold words. These kids think she's stupid.

they deserve a big fat F for stupidity!!!!!!
you gotta do it or else they wont learn from the mistake

An F is better then them being reported. They deserve the F.

I'm glad I'm not a teacher.

FH is a HS chem teacher...he basically teaches the lowest level of Chemistry becuase he is the youngest teacher and un-tenured. Well for his class he gave a review of 100 questions, reviewed them in class and gave it to them to review at home. Him and the other teacher that teachs the other section of ChemCom selected 50 questions, verbatim, from that review...not one Kid passed the exam in either section. These are kids that are 11th and 12th graders.

I do kind of the same thing for exams on grammar... I take questions STRAIGHT out of the books. I tell them to practice the questions because they will be on the test.. still get it wrong!

Thats just wrong.
They should get suspended or something.
I worked hard in my classes and these kids today should too!
