Stupid birth control

Stupid birth control

I've been on ortho tri cyclen lo for as long as FH have been together - 6 years. Recently I started taking the generic, tri lo sprintec, but apparently it's been discontinued or put on hold and is no longer available. That means I have no generic option and the brand name costs $67 per month! I can't afford that. My insurance has most of the birth control pills including all of the low dose ones in the highest copay bracket which is $75.

Now I don't know what to do

OMG me too! That's so annoying! I get them three months at a time... so that should be a hit! Hope it works out for you!

Call around to different pharmacies, try different chains and try some independents near you... what pharmacy do you use?

Some people may still have some on the shelf... it was unavailable, then available again for about 6 weeks, and now it's unavailable again. So annoying for those of us working inthe pharmacy almost as much as it is for you

ETA, try Wal Mart and Target and grocery stores with pharmacies as well in addition to the big chains and indpendents.

Do you pay out of pocket? I fyou do, ask if you can pay for moe than one refill at a time so you're covered for 2-3 months while they get this nonsense straightened out. Ask you rMD for a new paper Rx so you can take it to whatever pharmacy has it cause if you have your refills transferred from your existing pharmacy they can only do one at a time per NYS law.

HTH, good luck!

Call your dr and explain to them what is going on sometimes they have free samples they can give you

Other option call a planned parenthood place and see what they can do for you

Re: Stupid birth control

Ask your doctor. I'm on TriNessa which is apparently the same as ortho tri cyclen lo. I just looked up my online precription order info for you and it had a list of brand names and a generic one.

Brand names:
Mononessa
Ortho Tri-Cyclen
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo
Ortho-Cyclen tablet
Previfem
Sprintec
Tri-Lo-Sprintec
Tri-Previfem
Tri-Sprintec
TriNessa

Generic:
ethinyl estradiol-norgestimate

Speak with your doctor; there has to be an affordable option out there for you!

Re: Stupid birth control

you might be able to sign up for your insurance's mail order pharmacy. then you end up paying 1 copay for 3 months supply. depending on your plans deal with that pharmacy

Re: Stupid birth control

Also - if I go to the pharmacy for each pack, it's $15 each time. But I can order my prescription online instead and I get three packs at a time for $15. That REALLY adds up! Maybe that's an option for you too?

Those aren't all interchangable. SOme are low dose estrogen and some aren't. The TriNess is generic for OrthoTriCyclen, not OrthoTriCyclen Lo.

And some of thm aren't even tri phase BC's, some are only 2 phase. So don't go by that list. All that list is is BC s with the same ingredients, not the same proportions of hormones.

Ah, gotcha. That's weird, it all popped up on my online order as other ones that 'it could be known as' or something.

I've only been on this one and the Depo shot, so I don't know too much about how to interchange them and such...but obviously her doctor would be able to steer her towards something. Wonder what's up with that website though...sheesh, it's a valid pharmacy, not an overseas one or something!

Well, they are all options in terms of the hormones themselves, so they're all similar in theat way which is good to know when you're first starting a BC pill... but not good f you're looking to find a substitute for a specific pill.

If that's the way the website presented the list though, there'd be no way for someone to know they're not all interchangeable.. which is kinda dumb. I just wanted to let her know she couldn't call a pharmacy and ask for any of those things based on her Rx.

Re: Stupid birth control

PS, my advice stands only if you're really committed to NT changing your pill. If you're open to something nw, by all means review your ins forumalry with your MD to find an alternative. But if you like what you're taking, call the pharmacies like I said.

I can't offer advice on the medicine itself, but I can try to help you strategize in how to skirt around the availability problem so if you have any questions about what I said, please FM me

It seems as though all of those are on in the most expensive tier of my pharmacy copay except regular Ortho Tri Cyclen. I've always taken a low dose so I don't know how that will affect me. I have to make an appointment with my doctor I suppose.

Thanks for laying out my options! My mom is actually a pharmacist and that's where I go to get my prescriptions filled. I'll have to call around local pharmacies and see if they have it in stock. My mom will miss me as her customer haha

This reminded me of that Seinfeld episode when the diaphragm that Elaine used as birth control was discontinued. She went all over and bought what she could find. So she had to determine if a guy was worthy for her to use one of them since she had a limited supply. And if I remember correctly, Jerry's girlfriend at the time had a closet full of the diaphragms. She had cleaned out the pharmacies!!!

It *****!! I'm going to call my doctor's office tomorrow and make an appointment. Thankfully, I still have a month of pills to hold me over. This is the worst time to possibly switch pills. I'm nervous about side effects and things Hopefully it'll work out for us!

Hahahaha no it was the sponge!! She interviewed him to see if he was 'sponge worthy'? Lol and in the am when he wanted to do it again, she turned him down cuz she didn't want to waste a sponge. Then george went to her and begged her for a sponge for susan so they can have makeup sex, but by that time it wasn't makeup anymore. I LOVE sienfeld!

ask your dr for samples or try lo-estrin's generic brand, or a close family of friend could get a prescription and you pay for it

Crashing again folks. If you have no insurance and you live in Suffolk County, you can stop by one of the DOH health centers and go to family planning and get free birth control. I work for one of the SCDOH health center'.
