Stupid Church Question

Will any churches outside of your denomination allow you to marry at their church? (Catholics getting married @ Lutheran church, etc)

This is probably a really stupid question lol

Re: Stupid Church Question

My Fiance, who is Catholic, is able to get married in my church, which is Lutheran. He just had to take 2 saturday morning sessions of Faith Renewal, so I took it with him. No sweat!

I don't think it's a stupid question at all! Who will be marrying you? Do you have your own officiant or will you be using the church's? It really all depends on the denomination, as well as who runs that particular church. You could have an easygoing pastor who will welcome you, or someone strict who will not.

Re: Stupid Church Question

My church is Catholic & FH is Christian & he is allowed to get married at mine as long as we just have a ceremony & not a mass. If we were to have a mass then he'd have to pretty much convert & receive all the sacraments. But the priest was really nice he said don't worry about having a mass that they do a really beautiful ceremony which made me feel good :)

Re: Stupid Church Question

You will have to do a huge search to find a church. Many churches prefer if one person is an active member of the church. And if you do find a church, you will most likely have to pay a fee or give a donation.

It's not a stupid question at all. Good luck with your search.

Re: Stupid Church Question

I am getting married in the Greek Orthodox church, but that's only because FH is (I'm catholic). If I wasn't a Christian baptized by water, I would not be allowed to. If you are Eastern Orthodox of any denomination (Romanian, Russian, etc.) I believe you can get married in the Greek church as well. A couple in our pre-cana type class was in that situation, she was Romanian, and her FH was converting to Greek Orthodox, but was not yet baptized as such, and they were allowed to marry because she was at least orthodox. This probably doesn't pertain to your situation though because it's a very small niche.

FH and I are both Catholic, but getting married in an Episcopal church for a variety of reasons. This priest has been amazing and we have only had good experiences making arrangements with the people there. We had to meet with him twice, but it was informal. Ironically he was a Catholic priest for 20 years before he converted.
