I really want to have a video of my wedding, but we cant afford the 1500 most places are asking. I don't want anything fancy, just the ceremony, a pan of the hall before we get there, the entrance, the first dance, toast and maybe the parent dances... FH and I were just talking about buying a video camera and asking someone, instead of getting us a gift, to tape it (just the parts that everyone is already watching us) the benefits to this are that we have the few things I want on tape, we will also be able to take the camera with us on our honeymoon and we save about 1200... But would it be wrong to ask someone (MAYBE my sister's bf because she is in the bridal party and he isn't and it would give him something to do when he doesn't know anyone)

Thats a hard one. I'd be afraid to insult one of my guest by assigning them a 'job' but maybe you have someone coming that has an interest in film and wouldnt mind? Also, once I tried to tape a shower for someone, and my video got everyone nauseus b/c unbeknownst to me, I do not have a steady camera hand!!

You should call the guy I am using Visions. His name is Angelo and he worked with me. His packages start at $995 but I am sure if you tell him that you are on a budget call him and tell him your situation maybe he will offer you something lower.

My aunt just did that for our engagement party. It was so awesome being able to watch it after. She even took certain people in the hallway and let them give us a special message on tape and she had fh do one to me and me do one to him.
I think it is a great idea. Do you have any teenage cousins or soemthing? Throw them $100 and they would be in their glory

First its not stupid at all.... we are having two videos being taken, one by my moh dads camcorder and one by fh coworker..... free..... next we have a 6 thousand dollar computer in our living room that is designed to edit video and FH is a video editor so..... it all works. If you end up going it alone, talk to me, cus FH could prolly edit for you adding graphics music pics anything you want and charge uber cheap to do it on the side..... he does extra projects on the weekend alllll the time and 90percent are for weddings...

we plan on doing that...one of our friends was an art major and is really into film, so we think he can handle it. I'm sure your guest won't mind....

I am going to say no to that. I wouldnt want someone videoing with a regular camera. Its not the same as an edited video. Yea it saves money but its one day and at least you will have it forever on video. We own a video camera that tapes right onto a dvd so no transferring, i think its great to have, me and FH have so many DVD's already, seriously a huge collection of all our memories, but i really dont think its the same with a wedding. JMO

I guess I'd slightly feel the same way if we didnt have the hitech video editing equipment and well fh as the video editor... But think you can have you can have just as pretty memories captured on a home video too... it depends what each couple feels is the most important stuff.... mine was the hall open bar and dress, fh was the hall open bar and photog... were skimpin everywhere else

I think you have your answer and seriously if you wanted to jazz it up months down the road, make dvd copies yadda we can help.... we are all for the budget concious like us....

Honestly? JMO, but people are there to be your guest and enjoy your wedding - i wouldnt ask anyone to do that for me, i would feel like i was asking them to 'work'
Well in our case people offered their services'if theres anything we can do to help yadda'...., so i dont feel bad, and im sure someone in her family wants to help and would love the opportunity... especially guys, most really arent into the mush of a ceremony and would rather be up and doing something.... weddings actually make some people uncomfortable, i say if the help is offered be gracious and accept not everyone has the money to afford a videoagrapher but this is a nice way to have your memories captured too....

I think it's a great idea to have someone tape your wedding with a camcorder if a professional videographer is not in your budget. But is there someone other than somebody you would have otherwise invited that you could ask to do it? Maybe a neighbor or the son/daughter of a family friend, a brother or sister's friend, etc? Someone who wouldn't mind coming to the party, having a great meal, maybe make a small amount of $$, but wouldn't feel like he/she was missing out on anything bc he/she would be there mostly for the purpose of taping all the key parts of your wedding.

you could check the job boards at film schools some interns/students would probably leap at the chance to make fifty bucks for a couple hours.... I'm sure someone you know though will end up doing it

what about inviting someone extra just to do that...like a friend of a brother or someone younger that u know but u wouldnt normally invite? bc i wouldnt ask someone who has planned to be invited bc they might want to enjoy the moment and watch..so ask someone extra to come to tape these things and like someone else said offer a tiny bit of money and theyll be happy

I think it's fine to ask someone to videotape but I don't know about asking a close relative to do it. I would think they'd want to enjoy your wedding. Can you ask a younger cousin. Or maybe even hire a teenager from your neighborhood to come to your wedding to tape it.
Also make sure to get a tripod when you buy the camera. You don't want your video to be too jumpy!!!

There's probobly someone in your family or group of friends who'd be willing to do it for you, and they probobly own their own camera.
My neighbors offered to do it for us, but the video is important to me even though i dont want anything fancy. If it got messed up i didnt want to ruin a life long relationship with those people.
I do not feel comfortable working with friends or family, b/c I don't want to cause drama or conflicts over something like this.
But if video isnt something that you want to be perfect, you just want to have it... i don't think it's a stupid idea at all.
