This might quite possibly be the most stupid question I've ever asked on here. When you're inviting somebody 'and guest', where do you put it? You obviously don't put it on the actual invitation or the envelope addressed to the person, so where does it go? I feel like an idiot. TIA

Re: Stupid invitation question....
Hi! We put on the inner invitation envelope, not the outside envelope.
So, Mr. John Smith on outer
Inner: Mr. John Smith and Guest

So, on the invitation itself?

Not stupid at all...and the above is true.
I love www.verseit.com for helping me with 'stumpers' such as these...the closer we get, the quicker our brain shuts down!

No, on the outside (front, addressing part) of the inner envelope.

Exactly--you have the two envelopes--the outer and the inner. Inner one does not seal shut, outside does. The & Guest goes on the front of the inner envelope.

When I was single pretty much ALL invites I got to weddings mentioned guest on the outer envelope.
Outer is fine.

Re: Stupid invitation question....
I think that's why I got so confused. My invitations only came with two envelopes. Thanks everybody

I'm so glad you posted this, cause my heart fell when the others posted that '& Guest' go on the inner envelopes.... and I put them on BOTH!

It's a matter of taste. For my wedding I am not going with inner envelopes either.
Everyone has their own prefrence

Re: Stupid invitation question....
It goes on both the outer and inside envelope. I have bene dealingf with Papyrus and they consult Crane's etiquette book for every nitpicky question I have. It definitely goes on both. My fiancee just got a wedding invitation and because the groom wasn't sure of my name (this is a long lost family member of my FH) he (correctly) put my fiance's name and guest. Hope this helps.
