Stupid NWR Related Question

Ok, so I am going to a book signing next week. One of my FH's favorite Writers will be in NY and I want to get his new book signed for him..QUESTION...do they sell you the book at book signings, or do you need to buy it beforehand.

Sorry for the dumb question, I just don't want to show up w/o a book if I can't get one there.
