What the heck is a grooms cake? where do you have it? and does it have a theme? I have no clue about this.

Re: Stupid Question
The only time I EVER saw a Groom's cake was in the movie 'Steel Magnolias' and it was shaped like an armadillo with blood red cake.

Re: Stupid Question
A grooms cake is another cake that is served at the reception although it seems that in a lot of weddings they are serving them at the RD. You can look at the bakers on this site or you can usually go to a baker by you that has experience doing one. The grooms cake is something to give your FI as a surprise. I am having Dortoni in Levittown make my FI's and they are making a cake in the shape of a guitar and really could make anything you want.
Hope this helps

Re: Stupid Question
I think it started as a Southern custom but it is getting more and more commen in the North.
The Bride's cake is the traditional tiered wedding cake - usually a white cake and the Groom's cake is more untraditional (ie a guitar shape) and is usually chocolate.
I hope this helps.

I am giving it at the RD b/c I feel like by the time cake comes at the wedding nobody is in the mood to eat it so I figure the RD is an intimate small affair where he can really appreciate it.

Re: Stupid Question
I did a grooms cake for my DH at our engagement party. I just did it as a something wedding related just for him. He is a huge NASCAR fan so I did the #3 & #8 Earhardt cars. He loved it and it was a huge hit with all our guests! HTH!

Re: Stupid Question
I'm giving FH his groom's cake at our rehearsal brunch the day before. I think with all of the food at thr rception it might be overkill. His b-day is three days after the wedding so it will also be his birthday cake.
Also in the shae of a guitar as he is a semi-prof musician.

I'm doing mine at the RD as well and pretty much for the same reason.
I'm getting on in the shape of an XBOX, via sherribabee.com - she makes great stuff!!
