Stupid Vendors!!! (vent)

Stupid Vendors!!! (vent)

very simple request:

please email me, do NOT call... I can not answer my cell phone while at work, and I get nasty looks when it rings, and I teach dance at night, so I can't have my cell on. I can access my email 24/7 and this is by far the best way of communicating.

I said this to a number of vendors I contacted yesterday...

WHY do they all insist on calling me not once... but TWICE and leaving me loooooooong voice messages!?

and I specifically asked that they don't call me yesterday as I was attending my brothers graduation... yea, why is it that during the pledge of allegiance AND national anthem my phone starts vibrating, but is next to a pack of tic tacs so the whole thing sounded like an industrial size vibrator in my purse- I had people STARING at me... and whispering!

and just now.. while writing this- TWO MORE CALLS!!??

here's what I'm doing- if you CALL me.. I'm not setting up an appointment with you, I don't care how GOOD or AFFORDABLE you are... if you can't follow a simple request, how am I to trust you on my wedding day? AND if you don't give me a GENERAL price quote, telling me that every wedding is special.. yea hi, that means that you jack the price up when a sucker walks through your door... nope, give me a roundabout price and if its in my budget, I'll make an appointment.

ok, end vent

Maybe you shouldn't have given them your phone number.

was thinking the same thing

You can actually block their numbers and it would go right to voice mail and it wont ring at all.

Also realize, some vendors might not feel as comfortable emailing. Older vendors who are in business on their own might not even know all of the in's and outs of email.

I personally have learned that A LOT of information gets lots through email and things can be taken out of content. Hence LIW

Just turn the phone on silent or turn it off and then call them back when you have a free minute.

some of the sites wont let you fill out the contact form unless you give a phone number.. i usually put a fake number, but yesterday i was trying to email a bunch of vendors and do work.. so i guess i accidentally put my REAL number.

and the phone is on vibrate... and its LOUD and the vm alert is this annoying sound that I can't figure out how to change.
AND if you dont check the VM (and either delete or save) it notifies you EVERYTIME something happens with the phone OR just at random...

I totally get that... but like DON'T CALL when I specifically ask not to.. its simple- send a reply email saying 'i dont like to give information via email, please call when you have a minute'

the replies I was talking about is 'oh, we dont have set prices, it varies by wedding' i'm sorry, I don't like that...

You know it mostly does vary by wedding. Everyone had different visions for their weddings. You may want something that I dont so our prices might be different. I have learned that no prices are set in stone.

I hate to tell you, but that's vendors just trying to do business. It's the same reason most RH's and dress stores won't tell you prices over the phone. They know you have a better chance booking with them, even if they are high, if they have you in the store.

Just to offer a different perspective on this:

For a DJ for example, there really ISN'T a 'Set' price. Some people want 1 man, 2 man, lighting, live singer, photo montages...there's so many things that can be added.

Maybe you're going to end up visiting a few over budget, but also, maybe you'll wind up going to a few that turn out to be under budget. Maybe if you ask for a sample of their packages instead of just one set price that would work better.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices this. You post a vent almost everyday about something related to your wedding planning or something regarding your job. Maybe you need to take a step back from the planning for awhile if it causes you such grief and irritation. Maybe put the focus on securing a job where you'll be working somewhere where it's not cold or where people are not mean or where people don't steal your chips. But if you are truely this unhappy in your real life as you are in your posts, then the only person that can make a real change in that is you.

I was feeling the same way about vendors, because I'm a teacher and can't really access my phone during the day the same way I can access a computer. It didn't make me turn down vendors, though. I think if you do that, you might find that there are some really great vendors that you're going to miss out on.

I found it helpful to talk to them over the phone, because then I could tell them what I wanted, and get a sample price for that. I always prefaced with 'My FH and I live in NJ, so it's hard for us to visit places, so we were looking for pricing info before we head in to meet with you.' Every vendor I talked to was more than willing to give me their prices after a conversation about what I was looking for. I found it a lot more helpful than the vendors who just emailed me a price list.

The day after you submit requests into vendors websites, you get a million calls. I always put my phone on silent at work, at dinner, at a million other places where I don' t want to be bothered.

Yes, there are a few vendors that will continue to call you AFTER you tell them you aren't interested but you take care of those on a case-by-case basis. You can't get mad at the vendors for calling you back (regardless of how inconvenient the timing is for you) if you provided your number....

maybe I worded myself wrong earlier... I did ask for package prices and how much 'this and that' are..
and thats when I was told it varies by wedding.

and I totally get that they want to get us into their office to make the sale, but honestly, you're more likely to get ME and FH (he's worse than I am) into a room if you say 'well the GENERAL price is... or well our packages ARE... and then we'll figure out if its too high, because if it is... we can't do it.
and this goes for a number of vendors.

the whole purpose for the vent was the phone calls...
and it was more ONE vendor that set me off because he emailed me saying 'i'll call you in an hour' and I emailed back telling him my situation.. and he even wrote me an email saying 'oh i totally understand, i'll email you and we can communicate that way'

but he was the one to call during the pledge... AND again today.... and I sent him an email AGAIN and he hasn't replied, but he has read it... so w/e.

Maybe you should step back and reevalute what is important in your wedding planning. Remember this shouldnt be a horrible time of you life. When it come down to it you are marring your love and your best friend. all else should take a back burner to this

Yes, you don't want this to be a horror, ya know? You want to remember wedding planning as something fun and exciting, not an awful time in your life. Just let the vendor phone calls roll off your back. Yes, it's annoying at times...but there are so many worse things that could happen. Or just be proactive and say 'we found someone, so please remove us from your phone list.' And ya know what? I still get emails and phone calls from vendors (DJs, when I have one booked), and you just have to let it go. it's such a small piece of the big picture.

You seem stressed in general. If your job is awful, send out resumes to other places. You don't have to leave and be jobless, but be proactive in the search for something else.

I found a way around that. Hehehe!

Enter all 1's. 111-111-1111

It lets you move foward without leaving your actual number.
