Stupid Wedding Rehearsal ?.. How many of you did/plan to...

Stupid Wedding Rehearsal ?.. How many of you did/plan to...

Did any of you sign/plan to sign your marriage license at your rehearsal? Did any of you absolutely refuse not to? I know it is probably a stupid question but once you sign the paper you are legally married so I was wondering if any of you insisted on waiting until the wedding day itself or did it at the rehearsal?

I myself am torn on this... In one light it would be nice to do it on my wedding day but in another sense it doesn't REALLY matter to me because no one in our families will recognize us as being married until that day anyways!

Plus it would be nice to do it at my rehearsal so I don't have to worry about him leaving me at the altar the day of!!!!

No one has mentioned this to me. Are you supposed to sign it at the rehearsal?

I think it is up to the individual priest... Some might ask you to do it at the rehearsal and others might not even mention it..

My officiant isn't even going to be at our RD. We'll do it the morning, probably right after the ceremony or right before, depending on the timeline that day.

Even if you sign it, you're not 'officially' married until you exchange vows, I believe. Something like that. There's definitely something you have to say aloud before witnesses that makes it valid.

According to my priest, we sign the marriage license (as do our witnesses) at the rehearsal. He holds onto it until AFTER the ceremony when he signs it and submits it to the State.

The marriage license is not valid until it is signed by your officiant.

I never heard of this either. I thought that this was something that was always done on the wedding day.

The paperwork is not official until the priest signs the papers which our priest told us is done after the ceremony. So we (and our witnesses) will sign our marriage license at the rehearsal but our priest will not sign it until after the wedding.

I had to sign it at the rehearsal and let me say i didnt bring it with me and the person doing the rehearsal wouldn't do the rehearsal until we had our license. My poor mom had to go back and get it quickly and there was alot of traffic, i felt so bad.

But only Dh and I signed it and MOH, BM. The priest who married us wasn't even there, the deacon at the church did the rehearsal. Priest signed it after our wedding ceremony.

Trust me that signing just your name on that before a priest even does it, wont ruin anything. Plus not like you are married just by you two signing it

I don't know how our church will be handling it, but if the option to sign at the RD is offered, I will definitely take it. My cousin actually forgot hers at home the day of the wedding and her brother had to drive 30 minutes each way to go and get it prior to the ceremony started, so I want to avoid any situations like that!

That is what I was told as well.

I think if FH thought we were actually married as of the signing at the rehearsal, he would attack me

I think you do it that way because theres just so much to do on the wedding day. But I am sure you can wait if you want to.

We aren't actually rehearsing at our rehearsal, so I guess this doesn't apply to us. We will be signing it the day of.

As others have said, the license is not official until the officiant/priest signs it and, as far as I've heard, they will not sign it until after the ceremony has completed.
