such a DILEMA!!!!!! helppppp!

Ugh I just wrote liek a 3 page thing and it was lostttt


anyway


These are all great things, but I really don't know what to do!!!

1. I student teach Sept 6 (the tuesday we get back from our minimoon)

2. We have to take our real hm my Christmas break bc 1 - I'm off from work/student teaching and my FH has to use up his vacation time before 2012

3. We've been checking flights and resorts EVERYWHERE and literally everything that week is close to 6-7,000 for the week. We wanted to spend between 3-5,000

not even kidding, flights ONE way were close to 800 bucks.

I checked the week after christmas break and I can't even tell you...flights one way were 200 each, the resorts were at least $2,000 cheaper.

4. Here is my dilema. our 3rd grade teacher is pregnant and she is Due December 24. I end student teaching and graduate with my Masters on Dec 23rd.

Our permanant sub position (she teaches kindergarten library, subs whenever, has small reading and math groups during the day) she just got a job so she is leaving. This new girl he hired will be her first year in a school.

The 3rd grade teacher is one of my friends and everyone in the school is saying that I should get the leave replacement bc 1. I know the kids. - Iv'e been there almost 5 years now 2. I'll have my masters. 3. Its time for me to have a real classroom!! (ive been art)

now the dilema is this.

Do we save a TON of money on the hm and take it the first week of January? IF I get the job, that means I miss the week after christmas. and I feel that would look bad on my part...

my principal told me last year i can take my hm whenever i want (awesome!) but now Idk what to do.

I know I'm probably just getting too positive about this position...but I really hope he gives it to me.

You can easily go on a HM for $5000. I am going to Bali for two weeks for that amount (flights included).

FM and I can send you info for my TA.

OMG I understand your pain. I don't know how close you are with your principle, but maybe you can speak to them about your concern.

We are taking our HM the week of Christmas too because I am a teacher and I hunted around soooo hard due to the fact that everything was ridiculous...and we didn't want to go much over 3 or 4k. We ideally wanted to the Caribbean, but we were not spending 1k on airfare alone. So we ended up getting a pretty decent deal to Cancun. Look up mexico for that week because it tends to be cheaper. we are flying out the day after christmas, and will come back new years eve early on like 7pm.

It really is a tough call because you don't know 100% either way. I hope it all works out!!

Yea you def can...but during christmas week it is super difficult, since everyone travels then so all the prices get jacked up.

I know the pain of trying to find a job - just ask Meesh, she knows my past troubles.

Ok, I'm jaded - I apologize in advance

1. There are never and guarantees. Unfortunately in the world of education, a persons 'word' is worthless. I've seen it happen many times.

2. I would take the gamble and NOT go away after Xmas. I know it's more expensive, but missing a week if you get it could make them pick another candidate.


However, you never want to look back and say - damn I should have.... You have to do what is in your best interest, and you will!!!!!

Are you in a nyc doe school? If so. You are allowed a one week honeymoon with no pay but you do not lose sick days. Its in your contract. If not.....spend the extrAmoney or wait for feb break. Thats what i am doing bc of pricing (feb break)

let me ask a silly question, im not a teacher so i have no idea

but if your principal said you can go any time, why dont you just go right after your wedding? is it the end of the world if you miss the first week of school??

or go at the end of september during the jewish holidays, this way you wont be missing a full week of school, you know?

i know you already have your mini moon booked but maybe you wont lose that much money and it will end up being cheaper anyway.

otherwise I would wait until january if that is the safest option, in terms of pricing and getting the new job

Yea it sounds simple go wheneverrrr....but times are tough in schools and everything is counted against you or can put you in not a good light. So missing the first week of school would be the worst!!! And especially if you are aiming for a full time job.

We can't go the first week because I start student teaching Sept 6 and my college is so gunhoe that I NEED to be there the first week (which is totally understandable. and I have a two hour seminar that is mandatory that week..so that just sucks lol)

I'm in a Long Island catholic school, so we aren'tallowed to do anything hahaha
