I also got my dress at Macy`s and will have to get undergarments this summer. I know that JCPenny Wedding Catalogue has lots of undergarments for wedding dresses at pretty reasonable prices.
As far as renting one, I think there is a formal wear rental place in Setauket somewhere. I forget the name.

Regarding Slips - I was told by the bridal consultant to wait until my first fitting to decide if I wanted to add a slip. Your dress may be fuller than you expect, this is because the sample gowns get crushed in the closets and generaly abused by customers.
