SUFFOLK COUNTY GIRLS please help!!!! (or if you know about suffolk county towns)

08er here....

so FH and i are pretty much about to close on a house in bayshore.... school district is west islip, but the house is technically in bayshore.

so of course my mother is flipping out!!! first off, she never wanted us to be looking for a house until after the wedding so she is already pissed about that. so i was dreading telling her that we are close to closing on this house (she didnt even know that we went to look at the house) and she FLIPPED OUT over the fact that it is in bayshore - even though i tried to tell her that it is like borderline bayshore with west islip school district she is seriously not making this at all enjoyable!!!

so my question is - what really is the deal with bayshore? is it really a horrible area?! please give me honest answers!!

didn;t you say it's in west islip schoold whicjh are better than bayshiore by a bit? also the area of bay shire has a part close to brighwaters which is very nice- are you near there?

Oooh I can help!

Bay Shore gets a bad rap because it is usually Brentwood school district a lot of the time.

However West Islip is an amazing school, one of the top 15 on the island last time I checked.

I actually lived on Udall Road in Bay Shore with Brentwood district gowing up so I went to private school. Then for High School my mom wanted me in West Islip so we moved literally 4 blocks tto Bay Shore Rd., which is Bay Shore with West Islip District.

SO I went to West Islip High School with a lot of kids with money since West Islip is a nice town and a lot of the houses are on or near the water...

I grew up in Bay Shore and still live there. My sister and I got a great education in the school district and I am only months away from graduating with my PhD.
Yes, like all towns there are bad parts to Bay Shore, but if you are on the border of WI I am sure it isn't one of them.

it doesn't matter where you live as long as you keep in mind that FAMILY comes FIRST!
right is right & wrong is wrong no matter what town you live in or what school district you belong to.

sounds like your mom is mad @ the fact that she did not participate in your decision making!!!!!!
if you like the house then go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree 100%. I believe you are in the better part though being in W Islip Schools. So, don't worry about it!

my uncle lives in bayshore and has an amazing house. like huge, he is really rich. his kids go to west islip schools.

hi, I was in the same situation about a year ago. We looked at a home in Bay Shore that was West Islip school district, we choose not to buy (just found a better deal, nothing to do with the zip code.). I say go for it , west islip is great district, who cares about the zip code.

actually bay shore is a much better district than west islip. not to knock west islip, but the hospital takes up a lot of the property in that very small town and it's tax-exempt, so most of the financial burden falls on homeowners, driving up taxes and providing for the bare minimum of what it takes to run a school district.

bay shore, on the other hand, gets a lot of govt money because of the nature of the population, and they're known for being progressive in a lot of different areas.

despite the rampant racism that gives bay shore a bad name when compared to west islip, there's a better education to be had there.

i say this as a teacher and bay shore graduate.
