I am driving up from Atlanta to NY this Friday for my wedding next week- I was wondering if anyone knew of any county offices in Suffolk County where we can get our marriage license? I know you have to get it at least 24 hours in advance and that it costs $25 (money order only) but is there anything I need to know or bring with us?
Thanks-

Marriage Licenses
You can get your license up to 30 days in advance of your wedding.
You and your fiance need ID, that's it.

Suffolk County Offices
I am almost positive you have to get the marriage license in the town you are getting married in...we got married in Bohemia and we had to get our license in Islip.

Suffolk County Offices
Actually, this is incorrect. We are getting married in Mattituck and I called the Riverhead Town Hall today and spoke to the clerk's office. You can use a license anywhere in the state of NY and it is good for 60 days.

P.S. - 2 forms of i.d. -
They have a short list of what is acceptable i.d. We used our driver`s licenses and birth certificates. But they also take passports. I forget the others on the list since I knew we didn`t have them .. something like military i.d., non-driver`s license and maybe a couple of others. They do not take social security cards or credit cards.

Both the bride & groom have to be there but...
..it`s really a blessing, even if you have to juggle your scehdules a bit. When we went, I left work a little early and met him there and it`s was really nice. We were so happy with that license in hand leaving the county clerk`s office, it added to the excitement leading up to the wedding. He purposely wanted to meet me on a day that he didn`t have to go into work so we could be together afterwards (how cute is he!) Enjoy!
