Sugar Magnolias

Anyone booked with her? Or has met with her?

Ok so I met with Heidi from Sugar Magnolias last night and wow! It was totally unlike any other florist appointment I have had yet. But in a good way. She is so good at what she does. I went to her with a vision and she took my vision, ran with it, and came up with so many great ideas. At first it was a little intimidating because she is very confident. This is the 5th florist I have been to. And let me say, I walked into every other florist with my vision:

I want gerbera daisies. I love them. I do not want roses in my bouquets at all, some in the centerpieces. Anyway, bouquets were to be fuchsia, light pink, and orange gerbera daisies. MOH to be the same but a little bigger. Mine - same colors, bigger, with white stephanodus (spelling?). I found pictures...I loved it...so excited! Florists all told me great idea, they will be beautiful, love it. Centerpieces - I wanted tall, way above everyone's heads, nothing hanging down, all up and out, not shaped like a ball. I wanted gerbera daisies plus a few other flowers I liked that went well. Every other florist, no problem, love it, blah blah blah.....all gave me the same price.

I go to Heidi - tell her about my bouquets and she says 'Have you picked out your dress yet?' I say no and she says 'ok then we are not talking specifics about flowers today.' Then she says 'and i'm not trying to change your mind, but gerbera daisies in a bouquet with no other flowers will not work the way you think.' So then she gets onto the whole thing about different flowers in a bouquet and starts putting them together to show me and I was a little nervous at this point. Then she continued 'are you set on high centerpieces....because I really dont like them. I will though if you absolutely want them.' I was like ahhhhhhhh seriously. Then she began to explain herself and she totally made sense in every way about why she doesnt like high centerpieces. So she brings out a low one she did for a wedding this weekend....LOVE IT! Now I'm totally changed......bouquets will have roses and i'm having low centerpieces! She is emailing me a contract with prices.....and as long as the price is ok i think i'm gonna book her! I have never had any vendor appointment quite like this one....but it was the best one i have ever had. She is so informative, creative, knowledgable. I left there with 100% confidence that she was going to be amazing.

Sorry so long....just wanted to share my experience with you all!

FH used them for his first wedding. No complaints from him except for the price. But I guess she's worth it!

uhm.... ive seen plenty of Gerbera only boks that look awesome... and its not her wedding... who cares if she doesnt like to do high cps...

if she wants to offer advice about what flowers are better for what seasons, or what specific flowers are in season... thats fine... but her personal opinion is not really necessary!

No but I appreciated it and she gave me things to think about that I never really thought of. And now i'm rethinking the high centerpieces. I dont think I want them anymore regardless of whether or not she does it.

Ok, as long as youre ok with her advice... I wouldnt have been that would have made me walk out immediately... im not opposed to advice, i just get the feeling like she wants to do what she wants and not what you want...

She wasn't saying my vision would look like crap...she was just trying to tell me it could look better. She was adding things to make it amazing.

i'm curious.. what were her reasons for not liking high centerpieces?

i'm torn between using only high centerpieces or a mixture of high and low centerpieces.

No that wasnt it at all. She was just trying to open my mind after i thought it was already made up. And she made a good point....i cant complete my vision without my dress. So its not worth bringing the flowers together until i pick out a dress. The dress is the center of the wedding.

This is what she said about high centerpieces (well the ones I wanted)

I wanted high because i liked how it looked. But, I didnt want ones that droop below and have pieces hanging because I didnt want it in my guests faces. I want my guests to be able to see across the table.

She pointed out that high centerpieces are a huge WOW factor when everyone enters the room, but that only lasts a few minutes. Then when people are sitting at their table the arent looking at the flowers and the arrangement, they are looking at the underneath part of the arrangement. In order to see the full thing you need to stand up and back up a bit. So I didnt like the idea of my guests starring at a bunch of stems and the underneath part. Also she said, no matter how thin the vase is...it can still be hard to see across the table depending on the seating. She said that in Giorgio's it is not needed because of the chandeliers hanging and the fact that its a lower ceiling. She said in a place like Lands End, where the ceilings are very high, she would definitely recommend the high centerpiece to give the room more depth. But then she would say to have some things hanging to draw attention away from the underneath part.

i totally agree with you about not wanting anything hanging in my guests' faces or blocking my guests from talking to each other across the table.

hmm, i see her point. the room i'm having my reception in has very high ceilings, which is why i wanted to do high centerpieces. now i'm considering a mixture of high and low centerpieces to break up the room a bit.

ughh, me and you with the florist issues! i can't wait until i have some blocked. after this, i'm never going to want to look at another flower again!
