Suggest some books for me, please!

Suggest some books for me, please!

I don't like classics. I don't like sci-fi. I don't like romance.

What I generally tend to read are the mystery/thrillers/suspense books, but would like to expand my horizons. I generally tend to prefer books that are contemporary, i.e., don't take place more than 30 or 40 years ago.

So, who's got some suggestions? And if you wouldn't mind, what genre is it? Thanks in advance!

I loved Da Vinci Code
i like All Dean Koontz and Richard Patterson ( suspense mostly)

The Dive from Clausens Pier was good ( sorry dont know author, I forgot) Is a new release.

The Pact by Jodi Picoult was very moving/disturbing

Those two above are like drama's

Funny books that I loved ( not really romance) were
The Nanny Diaries
The Devil Wears Prada

Both were fast funny reads

American Psycho- Obviously what the film was based on. It is a psychological thriller, but it is extremely graphic. I found it really good though.

Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem- It is a modern detective novel. Good book.

Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil- Very interesting book. Much better then the film.

High Fidelity- Easy read and hilarious

Lovely Bones and Lucky - both by Alice Sebold (Lucky is a true story about the author who was raped in college, Lovely Bones is about a girl who is murdered and her afterlife in Heaven)

My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult (about a girl who is genetically engineered at conception to be a donor for her sister who has leukemia, then at age 13 sues her parents for health emancipation)

Hrmm

Jonathan Kellerman
Faye Kellerman
(Both are suspense who-done-it type writers)

Time travelers Wife was ok

I won’t recommend the DiVinci Code. FM for reasons

The Nanny Diaries was entertaining and I enjoyed it a lot.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith is the most recent book I read.

It was really good and spans the entire century - from about the 40's to today. Set in London. Ending gets a little weird though

I just started The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fford. It is a mystery (of sorts) about a detective trying to track down a criminal who steals characters from great works of literature.

So far it is funny and incredibly creative (and a little weird). Definitely not your average mystery novel!

I just finished reading Hello, Darkness on the plane yesterday. Memoirs of a Geisha is one of my favorite books.

Thanks for suggestions...keep 'em coming. I've got 2 waiting for me from Booksfree.com right now that I need to read, but don't feel like starting just yet.

Ok-- this may not be a book that you would normally be interested in.. but I HIGHLY recommened The Other Boleyn Girl by Philappa Gregory..

This book became like an obession to me-- I cannot tell you enough good things about it..

It's the story of Anne Boleyn but from her sister's perspective-- a page turner with sex, scandal, money, what have you..

SO good!!!

Have you ever read Geek Love. VERY weird, but very entertaining.

Also The God of Small Things. I just finished reading it for maybe the third time, it's just so beautifully written.

Keith Ablow - He is a Forensic Scientist who writes Psychological thrillers. I just finished Murder Suicide. It was an excellent fast paced book. It was a combination of Law and Order and CSI. I cannot wait to read his next book.

Memoirs of a Geisha is my favorite book too! I could read it 100 times, it is the kind of book you think about for months after you finish reading it!
