Re: suggestions for an irish blessing?

Some prayers:
Irish Wedding Blessings and Toasts
Whether you incorporate some of these traditional blessings into your ceremony, or have a toast to your Irish heritage at the reception, use these lucky words to show off the wearin' o' the green at your wedding.

Raise Your Glass
Instead of the traditional 'cheers' at the close of a toast, have a member of your wedding party sign off the toast with 'Slainte' (pronounced SLAWN-cha), Irish for 'to your health'!

Traditional Irish Blessing
May Joy and Peace surround you,
Contentment latch your door,
And Happiness be with you now
And bless you evermore.

May your troubles be less, And your blessings be more
And nothing but happiness come through your door.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your fields and, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Re: suggestions for an irish blessing?

A poem by Irish poet W. B. Yeats -- I love the sentiment and it is not maudlin but hopeful:
When You are Old
by W. B. Yeats

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

Re: suggestions for an irish blessing?

Uncredited Irish blessing:
By all the irish saints
in heaven, may you be
blessed today.
May st. Brigid, Brendan and St. Patrick
Guide you on your way,
May Kevin, Kieran and Columba
keep you in their care,
and to Plunkett Ita and to
Malachy, we offer up this prayer:
May all the Irish saints in heaven
keep you safe and warm
on all saints day and every day
from all troubles and from harm.

Awesome, Shandra I was just gonna add that one -- very classic Irish prayer oriented to St. Patrick Day.

We are having that to close our mass. I love it.
