I dont know how far you want to go, but FH and I are getting married at Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Islip. Its really pretty and they are soooo nice there. Its not our home parish but they welcomed us with open arms anyway

how much is the donation? do they require counseling?

Theres no 'pre cana' really. We met with the priest once for like 2 hours just to talk about our relationship. Thats all they require.

As for the donation...theres no 'donation' per say....its really a set amount that is required as a fee. Its like $250 for clergy, ummm $500 for the church fee, i think $150 for the organist. They dont have any rules about aisle runners or unity candles either. Its a lot of money, but to be honest, almost all churches are a lot of money these days.

HTH! Feel free to FM me fo rmore info

Re: suggestions for churches?

I think the main question you need to ask yourself is if you want the marriage to be recognized as a Sacrament for you, the Catholic. If you do, you need to get married in a CATHOLIC church. you have to attend Pre-Cana and talk with the priest about a dispensation (all inter-faith couples fill this out... it's no big deal).

The only problem I think you'll run into is that sometimes it is hard for a Catholic that is not a member of a parish to find a church that will marry them.... basically, most Catholic churches give priority to dates to parishoners (families and or couples that actually attend said church).

however, I would call the Diocese of Rockville Centre www.drvc.org. they will hook you up with a parish that will marry non-parishoners.

HTH......
