Suggestions for protecting the Wedding Money

Ladies, after reading past posts on items stolen at receptions, it troubles me from time to time, especially after seeing how quickly a five yr. old boy was taken by a guy in a gorilla suit, right in front of the parents, on the news last night. I thought, Wow, if a child can be snatched that quickly, what about wedding money?? So, I asked the Newlywed Brides what they did to prevent theft at the reception, and got some ideas; However, if anyone on this board has some ideas. please tell me. TIA!!!! Mary MOB

There will be about 20 police officers at my wedding....so I think we have that area covered.

I was hoping to find a cardbox that had a lock on it. Obviously that would not stop a person from stealing the entire box, but I would hope it would at least deter a person. Also, at my RH, they actually have someone who will stand there and watch the box the entire time.

my aunt, who is in a wheelchair and never moves from her spot, will guard the wedding money. she is the wedding money nazi, as a matter of fact! my sister's friend had her wedding bag stolen at the wedding - my aunt might not be able to chase anyone but no way would she ever let anyone steal our money.

do most people do card boxes now? back in the day it was bags

I would think the box would be harder to take than a bag. Its not like you can take a box without someone seeing.

Hannah, believe it or not, that' was my thinking too!! How can we bolt it down??? One Newlywed Bride suggested putting bricks etc. in it to weight it down. Mary MOB

Ladies, I think the best idea is to have a trusted designated person, to 'stand guard'! I wish we had an Italian Grandma!!!!! Mary MOB

I'll probably have one of my family members watch it...it would be awesome if I could attach a dye pack to it so that if anyone lifted it or stuck their hand inside they'd be sprayed with ink

1 of my friends used a cardboard box that was nicely decorated but unfortunately someone pulled several cards from it (which of course had cash and not checks). I felt so bad. I am using one of those wedding bird cages and am lining it so the cards can't be pulled from it.

Re: Suggestions for protecting the Wedding Money

we kept the box right behind us--across from the table with my relatives--trust me when i say that they were NOT letting that bad boy out of their sight. i also made sure that EVERY member of the staff know that under NO circumstances should that box be removed from their, unless at the end of the nite -- by us. we gave a heads up to other friends and family too---that if they saw someone taking it before the nite was over--to immediately stop them and let us know.

If I could, I would totally get my sister’s tiny little pug to guard it. The silly dog barks at everything!

Baring that, I think my dad said he will be in charge of it.
