My FH and I wanted a fairly low-key, non-traditional wedding so we've done a few things that aren't the norm. For instance, not getting married in a church.
I have a formal wedding dress but instead of a tux, FH bought a Hugo Boss suit. I must say, it looks stunning on him. It's a dark grayish charcoalish color with subtle striping. The striping is somewhat shiney.
He also bought a white shirt, blue silk tie, matching blue handkerchief, and silver cufflinks from Charles Tyrwhitt in the city.
So it's not that he's 'dressing down' per se, it's that he dislikes tuxedos and the suit can be worn to other formal occasions for years to come.
But OH you should see people's reactions when I tell them he's wearing in a suit, not a tux! My mother included, although she's gotten used to the idea. It's like they're picturing me in my beautiful dress and him in some wrinkled polyester leisure suit!!
So I'm wondering, who's FH is wearing a suit? I need to know I'm not alone.

Re: Suit instead of tux?
My FH is wearing a tan seersucker suit (subtle stripes). We have had numerous relatives try to talk us out of it. We are getting married outside on the water at 11:30AM in July - it is just not tux weather!
FH is wearing leather flip flops instead of dress shoes too - people's reactions are ...um....strongly against
