I think it's really up to your FH on how much $$ he want's to spend. I'am sure your mom, FMIL, and FH didn't put a price on your dress and veil... ya know (just trying to give an example)! So don't even think twice about it. I'am sure your FH is going to look awsome in his suit. JMHO

i feel like its completely up to him to ask him grooms men if theyre comfortable with that and if they are, great. If not then they move on and pick something else. No need for you to be involved in that.

This is my honest opinion, so please don't attack me!
Yes, I think $250 is way too much to ask the GM's to spend. Last year, FH was in a wedding and that was how much he had to spend on his tux. He still talks about how ridiculous that was. After all, the GM's are renting the tuxes for ONE day only. At least the girls own their dresses! FH picked out beautiful Calvin Klein tuxes for $139. Again, only my opinion, you guys know your GM's best, maybe they are loaded, so in that case, God bless!
Edited to add, I just realized that $250 tux FH had to rent is the one he is wearing in my avatar, not so special, right?

I would have your FH run it by his GM's and see what they're comfortable with.
Not to start anything, but why is it ok to ask BM's to spend $250 for a wedding (probably more once you factor in dress, alterations, hair, makeup, shoes, etc) but not ok to ask the GM's to spend that much??? I just don't understand it.

I don't know if you are referring to my post, but I definitely don't think it's ok to ask BM's to spend that much, and my BM's are not spending anywhere close to that, even with the accessories.( I'm paying for hair & mu and they are wearing their own shoes and jewelry because I never understood why I would want them all to be completely matching! But again, the BM's keep their dress, GM RENT for ONE day! And I think most BM dresses now are pretty and stylish, so they actually could be worn again. That's why I had my girls pick out the dresses themselves.

Not necessarily your post, just in general. The OP also said that someone she spoke to thought it was too much. So it really was just an honest question. And I appreciate your response. However, there are people who's BM dresses cost well over $250 and then ask their BM's to get their hair and/or makeup done too. When I was a BM for my best friend, I spent about $400 just to be part of the wedding (dress, hair, makeup, shoes) and I'm sure the GM's really didn't spend even close to that. Guess I'm just thinking out loud.

That's a lot of money! That is why I left it up to the BM's. I know it would be really hard for me to be a BM in a wedding if the dress and hair etcc.... were so much money. I know the BM's are running into expenses that if they weren't in my wedding, they obviously wouldn't have, so I tried to do my best for them. But as we all know from this site, everyone is different, and what might be a lot of money to us, isn't to other people! That's why I preface all my posts with only my opinion, because in the beginning I would get attacked for just saying what I thought!
(By the way, thanks for the WW advice you gave me a while back. I re-joined 6 weeks ago and lost 9lbs!)

That makes a big difference.. they will own the suits afterwards. I think its def. more reasonable if they are buying them then renting them. Regardless just have him ask the GM's if that is ok.

Re: suits, groomsmen, i don't know
i think it all depends ... just like the others said this is just my opinion so dont kill me! remember when you were looking for bridesmaid dresses and you knew your girls could not afford $200 dresses even though you really loved jim hejlm (sp?) and changed your mind and went to look for another dress you loved just as much but for cheaper? i think it depends on the guys. if the guys are willing to pay that much than go for it. i know FH has been in a couple of weddings and has never paid that much but i understand they will own the suit after the wedding. it does sound expensive. however, if the guys love the suits and feel that they will use them again and are ok paying that price go for it. i just dont think all 8 or 9 guys will be ok with prices ... especially if they have been in other weddings and have rented tuxes for half the price. have FH talk to the guys and let them figure it out! you have enough on your plate missy!!!

He should ask the guys what they think. If they can afford it and want the suit, then that's awesome. But if they think it might be a little too much $$, maybe you can just rent suits and it will be much cheaper. We wanted the guys to buy tan suits from Perry Ellis but realized it would just be cheaper to rent for the day and give them back. Esp. since most of his guys already had tan suits - they really didn't need another one to own (but they didn't all match so we chose one for them to rent).

Re: suits, groomsmen, i don't know
Girls are asked to drop $250 or more all the time on BM dresses that lets face it, they wear once (no matter how pretty and versatile you think it is, lets face it, they usually only wear them once). GMs get off easy, usually renting for less. I think its totally ok to ask them to drop $250 on something they will own, after all they can wear the same suit OVER and OVER and OVER again and really you can never have to many suits. They will get their moneys worth out of it, much more then the girls will get out of the BM dresses.

Re: suits, groomsmen, i don't know
If they are purchasing the suits, then I think that your FH should say I found this suit that I like, it's 250, is everyone cool? If not, then find something else, but if so, that's great too. The key is communication...my BM dresses were very expensive, and I communicated the price, the special deal I was getting, and every change in price along the way, and gave the BMs more than ample opportunity to say something if they really had a problem. So I think your FH should do the same.

Are those the suit type tuxedos that cost $250? We haven't gone yet and that's what FH wanted.
