Re: summer babies and outdoor activities
I had my baby last March and I plan on taking her in the pool with me for the first time this summer. She's almost 13 months old now. I think you have to be very careful with them in the summer and protect them from the sun. Even this summer, I will only have my daughter in the pool for a short period of time because I DON'T want her in too much sun because she is a baby and very delicate. Usually if we are outside, I will have her under an awning so the sun isn't on her.

as long as you constantly apply sunscreen, have cover-ups hats etc the summer is a great time for a baby!! we will be spending all summer in the pool!!

I had Andrew last May and we enjoyed getting out last summer! I would have dies if I had to stay in or at home!! I was very careful not to keep him in the sun too long. He loved the pool and I know he'll have even more fun this summer! I can't wait!

I think you can't use sunscreen until the baby is 6 months old.

Re: summer babies and outdoor activities
my childrens ped. insisted i put sunscreen on my girls when they were babies. my girls are very fair i guess maybe thats why. but i always used sunscreen. even though i made sure they were not directly in the sun, they wore hats, etc etc. i would not want them to get sunburn.it hurts alot as an adult i would hate to see my baby get sunburn.

You can not use sunscreen on infants,,, my Dr told me not untill at least 6 months old..I took Jillian out last summer in her infant carrier with bug netting.. but i did not go to the pool( they are not supposed to go into the water untill atleast 3 months) and I did not want to go near the beach..
These are questiosn you will have to ask the Ped when you finally have the baby,,,,

Aidan was a May baby and I didn't put sunscreen on him last summer because he was under 6 months. That didn't keep me from going out and enjoying the summer though. While I didn't go to the beach, there are plenty of places to enjoy the outdoors where you can keep the baby covered and comfortable and out of the sun. (ie, light breathable clothing, nets, sunshades, reversable handle stroller, etc..)
I don't even like to put it on him now, I just don't like that that stuff is being absorbed into his body. We needed to use it in Florida last month, but if I can avoid direct sun I do.

Ask your physician... most sun screens shouldn't be applied on babies under 3 mos.--- EVEN the infant ones. Keep baby well shaded... We went to the park for picnics, kept the baby in shade... You will develop you own 'mommy-judgement' as well...

They are 'allowed' to go in water... Jeremy has been in swimming lessons for 2 weeks and he isnt 3 months old yet.

Re: summer babies and outdoor activities
I agree 100%. They dont develop the fear of the water, they dont loose their natural ability to swim, they dont develop separation anxiety when going to their instructor, they develop more muscle control more quickly, its good exercise and one day it MAY help to save their life. To me its SOOOo worth it!
