Hi, I'm getting married this August at Crest Hollow and have a question for all the summer brides. Did your bouquet wilt at all before the ceremony b/c of the time spent taking pictures beforehand? Crest Hollow is giving us 3 hours for pics and I'm worried that my bouquet will look gross by the time the ceremony comes around. I was thinking about getting a second bouquet but Id rather spend that money on something else Any feedback?

Re: Summer brides bouquet question
From what the florists tell me, you need to pick a sturdier flower in the summer months (roses only, maybe) and pick a non-light color which will show the age if its super hot. Also, keep the flowers in the shade.

Re: Summer brides bouquet question
my friend got married last July in Florida (it was disgustingly hot that day), and she had a deep red calla lily bouquet. It held up great (and if it was wilting, we never saw it). We (the bm) had blue hydrangea, and we had to keep putting them in water, b/c they would not stay alive.
Go for something like a calla, and you'll be ok. that or you'll need a holder that has oasis in it.

Re: Summer brides bouquet question
What flowers were you thinking of? I had gerbers and had to put them ina special holder because they're top heavy and can snap off in the extreme heat and the back and froth from air conditioning to outdoors. But with the extra water source they were fine.
Stay away from flowers like Hydrangeas and peonies. My MOH used them for her bridal bouqet and even with a water source they looked awful by the pictures.
Also make sure whatever flower is sued its really fresh. Flowers that are not as fresh will wilt faster.

Re: Summer brides bouquet question
I had a hot day last summer and had roses, held up very well. If you are super nervous light mist spray them w/ water after a few hours. A good florist will have the freshest flowers for you so they should be fine.

I know orchids are pretty hardy- what about Cymbidiam (sp?) orchids? Those are beautiful!

Wow, be happy that ch is giving you 3 hours for pics! I only get one! My friend got married last July and had all roses, as did I as a BM, and they were in a plastic holder that I believe had water in it. They lasted all day. She had white roses, and we had colored.

Re: Summer brides bouquet question
I was in a bridal party last july and we had clutch bouquets, all roses, and they held up the entire day! I even put them in a vase when I got home, and the lasted the rest of the week!

Re: Summer brides bouquet question
I have no idea what flowers she's putting in yet, but I'm a little tired of roses lol so I told her to go easy on them. She said she will try to get flowers that withstand the heat well and my BMs bouquets will be made mostly of orchids. I do like the reservoir idea and it should be easy to pull off since I'll have ostrich plumes surrounding the bouquet (to give it a nice flowy look). I'll definitely see if we can do something like that. Thank you for all the advice!

Re: Summer brides bouquet question
Our wedding is in the summer as well and like you I am sick and tired of roses. I did not want roses at all. I am having calla lillies. However, my florist was very honest with me and told me that altough they are pretty good to always have a glass of water near to dip them in because they need water. I was pretty set on having large calla lillies as my BQ, but he did tell me they tend to wilt a little faster and suggested small calla lillies. They tend to hold up much better. So,it depends on the calla lilly. By the way,....there are quite a few versions of calla lillies Look in my album so you can see my BQ and the BM's as well.
