Sunday before labor day wedding

What do you guys think of a wedding on the Sunday before Labor Day? I'm thinking of getting married on September 6th 2009. So then people can book a hotel for the night if they want and not have to worry about work the next day. Do you I'll have a problem with my guests Labor Day plans?

I think that's a great idea!!! Just send out STDs so that your guests don't make travel plans that weekend and you should be fine!!

I got married this past columbus day weekend...and it wasn't a problem. I would suggest sending STD early so your guests know a head of time not to make any plans

I got married the day before Memorial day. People who want to come will be there, and people who would rather go on a vacation won't. I sent out STD's a year in advance, and people still told me they had plans for that day after the invitations went out.

I am getting married Memorial Day Weekend. And I agree, the most important people will be there. If other people feel that it is more important to go on a vacation, so be it. We gave out our STD's at our engagement party, over a year in advance. We'll see what happens.

My brother got married on Sat, July 3rd. They did not have any problems with people not coming just b/c it was a holiday.

The important people will definitely be there!

I almost booked for Labor Day Sunday of 2007, but two things held me back. My friends always complain about holiday weddings (although they still always go), and 90% of my guests are OOT and Long Island traffic on Labor Day is a nightmare!

However, like I said, my friends always end up going and having a great time, and driving out to LI on Sunday shouldn't be bad, and if they leave early enough they should haven't a tough time getting home.

Good to know. We're doing ours on Labor Day sunday. We just wanted to give our OOTers a chance to get in, and since it's a Jewish wedding, we need to do it on Sunday. Also, the LIRR runs labor day, and our spot is right near the station.

I am getting married on Sunday May 27, 2007 - Memorial Day weekend. Its fine. Much better for the guests.

Another thing ... if you have a lot of OOT guests, make sure you block your hotel rooms early. LI hotels book up quick! Especially on holiday weekends.

What's funny is that my brother ALWAYS complained about holiday weddings (or the threat of holiday weddings, lol)... and he was the one to get married on July 3rd!

just remember this... it is a holiday weekend. Things are more expensive for your guests. But if you give them enough notice with STD then you should be fine. Good luck and enjoy!
