Happy Sunday, my lovely ladies! Only a short week this week!
So today's question come from the Chris Matthews Show. They were discussing the declining rate of marriage among the American twenty somethings- and how the Feminist movement may have had something to do with that. Educated men AND women looking at marriage as a tradition that is no longer necessary.
So my question- would you guys have stayed with your FH for the rest of your life if you did not get engaged and married?
For us, we had already been Domestic Partners, had shared insurance, etc- it wasn't something that was super important to me. But, I am happy to have this marriage coming up.
Also, I know that this is a tough week for some with travels, so possible BOTWs, please let me know if you have the time to commit this week. I don't want to choose you if you can't commit this holiday week!

we just talked about this!!!! Yes absolutely we would stay together even if we didnt get married. We are best friends-- cant live without eachother!!!!

FH is definitely my soulmate and I would love to spend unlimited lifetimes with him...Its just interesting because I always wanted to get married and be engaged. If we had discussed it and he said we could build our lives together and get the legal benefits (insurance, etc.) then I would be ok...
but very jealous of all of my friends getting married...

I am super happy that there is a wedding and we are getting married; but I really believe we would still be together if there wasnt.. I couldn't imagine my life without him.
As for the upcoming holiday - I'm happy I don't have to travel; ill be home with the family!!! Yay!!!!

I'm sure I would, but I feel like marriage kind of seals the deal, you know?
It's just kind of a guaranteed commitment to each other.

Honestly, marriage is super important to me. If he wasn't willing to get married I wouldnt be able to stay in the relationship. He didnt have to rush (We've been together 4 years), but it was something I needed.

I would never have left FH if he didn't propose when he did. I love him wayyyy touch!!
As per BOTW - not traveling and working lol home waiting to be scheduled for surgery the week after thanksgiving.

What an excellent question! No matter what I would have stayed with my FH marriage or no marriage. But the idea of marriage versus boyfriend/girlfriend is huge not just because of the legal stuff like insurance and taxes but also because marriage is a big step in the commitment of a relationship. Marriage makes the relationship 'more grounded'. I have a friend who just got married to her high school sweetheart of 12 years. They own a house together and everything and basically live their lives as 'husband and wife' but the wanted to have the legal papers that says they are married, and make it more special.
Before my FH propsed, I told my FH I was in no rush to get married at anytime but I still wanted to get married eventually. He, on the other hand wanted to get married and proposed after 4 years!

yup. we lived together for 5 years before getting engaged, and it was pretty much like being married anyway since we shared bank accts and everything else. I wouldn't mind never getting married

Yes i would stay with him forever even if it didnt mean marriage.
we have been together for almost 10 years,we have had ups and downs, and we have realized no matter what happened we were always drawn back to each other. he is my best friend and i really really really could not imagine my life without him.
planning this wedding has made me realize even more how much i love him and how happy i am to have him in my life
