I think I end up saying grocery store most of the time and then people look at me strangely...I really don't care, but, someone tell me, does it really make that much of a difference? Would you notice if someone said one rather than the other??
Perplexing, I know!

Re: Supermarket or Grocery store?
I think I say supermarket, bt it wouldn't phase me at all if someone said grocery store. It's all the same. It's a store that sells food.

I call it the stoopidmarket. It's always a cluster-fart when I go. You should have to take out insurance to drive a cart, I tell ya.

Re: Supermarket or Grocery store?
I call the big ones with parking lots supermarkets, but when I have to go to one of the stores down the street on queens boulevard, I call it a grocery store. I've noticed myself doing this since I moved to Queens.

Re: Supermarket or Grocery store?
umm, it's that mystereous place where my husband stops on his way home from work & returns with yummy things like seltzer & pudding!
Technically, where he goes is a supermarket. It is the SUPER Stop & Shop.
I think he says grocery store & I just say Shop & Shop.

I never really thought about it until reading this post. I think I use both terms equally as well as cart and wagon equally.

That is so true! They call it buggy here in Chicago also. The first time someone said that to me I didn't know what they were talking about.
BTW.... I call it grocery store
