sat down with the in-laws today and list of people to invite to the wedding and it is only 82....i was expecting something like 120 or at least 100....I do not mind having a small wedding but I feel like a lot of RH do not accommodate this small of a wedding....kinda bummmed but at least it will be a lot cheaper haha

Re: Surprised
I know what you mean! Our RH has a 100 person minimum and I was like oh awesome, thats perfect, we wanted around 100. We make the complete list of EVERYONE to be invited, including the people that won't come, too old, too far away, etc.but will still get an invite. And when we did the best guestimate of who we think will actually show up, it was less than 100. I know people surprise you with Weddings sometimes, but we have soo many OOT'rs and they're all so CHEAP, that I don't think they'll come.
Even if a RH has a minimum that you don't think you'll make, see if you can work a deal, and if you love a place and has a min, don't think of it as a price per person, multiply the costs by the minimum number and think of it as a flat fee, if you can afford it, great, if not, there are tons of places around!

Re: Surprised
we had a min of 75 at the Swan Club. There were tons of places we looked at who were willing to work with us so dont worry!

Re: Surprised
I would start thinking about people that you kinda wanted to invite but didn't think you could - like that cousin you only see every few years, or that friend that you only see once a year, and coworkers. You have to also remember that not everyone you invite is going to come, your guest list might actually be closer to 60 when you get all of your RSVP's back.... Look at Stewart manor CC - they are very accomodating for smaller parties. Since it is so small you might want to consider a restaurant instead of a traditional receptional hall - Milleridge Inn has, in addition to the Carriage house and Cottage, rooms INSIDE the inn, some of those are better suited to accomodate that size party with DJ or BAND - hofstra used to have their music dinners there in one of the back rooms every year - the parties were EXCELLENT.... and it will likely cost you sooo much less...... damn, now Im wishing I had thought of that, lol, Good Luck!

Re: Surprised
Think of a smaller wedding this way though...everyone there will really WANT to be there...its not like 'oh just another wedding' to anyone, ya know?! We applied a strict rule while we were devising our list....if we stopped to think about whether or not to invite someone for longer than a bit we didn't. We both have LARGE families so we are close to 200 but the friends and co-workers on the list are CLOSE to us. I think smaller weddings are so intimate and lovely! ENJOY!

Re: Surprised
I just got married and had 76 adults and 10 children...My min was 65... it worked out FABULOUSLY.. I wanted a small wedding of 50, but it kept growing... It was large enough, and had time to visit with my guests... actually talk to them and enjoy their company.. I loved it... I never understand the need to 'invite' a bunch of people you don't know, or love, just to have a large wedding.. just have the people who are important to you there, and it will be perfect.

Re: Surprised
I'd definitely have a smaller wedding if I could do it again. But believe it or not we started thinking 150 was gonna be our number and ended with 253 people being invited. 210 are coming. The number jumped astronomically at the last minute.

Re: Surprised
Thanks for all of the inspiration....I think im am going to tell RH that my min. is 80. Who knows maybe i will have more. I just have dreamed of some catering halls that i now know are out of the question. I dont want to stress bout this. People usually stress about having to many and here i am stressing about not having enough! hahaha I just thought my FH had a bigger family then that but once we put it on paper i was surprised lol

I would definitely try to negotiate a lower min. Our guest list was 110 and we had 75 people the day of

Re: Surprised
just think of it this way... you have to pay per person....
we are paying for our own wedding (not sure if you are)
we would have LOVED a # like that. Our number is more like 200

Re: Surprised
Don't be bummed..We are having a small wedding on purpose for a few reasons.
1. We both have small families 2. We are paying for the entire thing (less people = less money) 3. We only wanted to celebrate with people we share our lives with. (No distant cousins, family's co-workers) 4. We want to be able to spend time with each person at our wedding.
I think is difficult if you have a large family but if you don't your wedding will still be amazing
RH that have lower minimums (most even on Saturday nights)

Re: Surprised
No reason to be unhappy about it! There are so many places that have lower minimums. I know my hall (Jericho Terrace) accomodates smaller weddings.
