SUVs

Dh and i are looking into purchasing an SUV for our next vehicle (my lease ends in october). we have done some research and like the sounds of the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander.

of course we plan on checking them out in person and all that, but i was wondering if you all could let us know some of your personal experiences with SUVs (what kind you have, pros and cons, etc.)

thanks in advance!

Re: SUVs

I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. I just got it recently, but I have to say after having 4 wheel drive, it makes all the difference in the world with the snow. I'd have a hard time going back to a car.

I have the extended cab, so I have 3rd row seats. The fold up so easily so if you need to transport things it makes it simple. It rides great and is a very sturdy truck.

The ONLY complaint I have is one that probably anyone with a truck has....lost of $$ for gas!!

Good luck and feel free to FM me if you have any ??'s

We have a GMC Envoy. Its a great truck...the only drawback is it takes a lot of gas...and with the 2.20 a gallon its a fortune!

Good Luck!

I ordered an Acura MDX which I will pick up June 30th. They have many airbags, 5 star crash tests and 3rd row seat. I will let you know what I think once I own it.,

Danielle's sister has a 2003 GMC Envoy, and she loves it. There is plenty of room and the truck rides really well.

If you want a Pilot, I may be able to get you a deal. My friend works at South Shore honda in Valley Stream, He is a Sales Man there. Im not sure if they are doing any discounts with the Pilot though, because of the Popularity of the truck. You will probably pay close to $30k for an ex model.

Re: SUVs

We both have SUV's and love them, I have the 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, and he has a 2003 Trailblazer. We've had a few problems with the Pathfinder, that were factory defects, and they were fixed with no problem. As far as the Trailblazer he loves his truck, and minimal problems with that as well. His truck had 3 recalls within the past year for the windshield wiper motor and the switch inside the truck. Other than that they are great!!! Just a little costly on gas.

I was also looking at the Highlander and the Pilot - I bought the Highlander. Originally I wanted the Pilot because I like Hondas and I liked the design of it. But I was looking when it first came out and everyone was charging over sticker price which I refused to pay. There were some things I didn't like about it - if you get leather seats, they do not come heated and you cannot get a sunroof due to the design of the roof. I'm also petite and even with the seat all the way forward, still had to stretch a little to reach the pedals. The only drawback to the Highlander was that it had no third row seat at the time (I got a 2002) but I understand it now has that option. The Highlander has a five-star safety rating for front and side. I got the Limited 4WD, so it has my sunroof, heated power seats, 6 CD player, trip computer, power everything, all the options. I love it! Rides like a car, not a truck, which was important to me. So far, no problems with it at all.

My parents have a Honda Pilot, and love it

We just bought the Toyota 4Runner in October and no complaints so far - we love it! The Highlander is a little smaller than the 4Runner - more of a cross-over than truck. We wanted the bigger car. But we did look at the Highlander. Everyone I know who has a Highlander loves it.

I will be picking up my SUV next week. I am getting a 2004 Mazda Tribute...I have a Mustang Convertible now...I'm sure it will be weird driving a truck now...but I can't wait!

although this is very delayed, just wanted to thank you all for your input! we're still looking around and coming up with more and more options everday.

we are now considering getting a certified pre-owned lexus RX 300, but the pilot and highlander are still in the running.

Re: SUVs

My future FIL has a Honda Pilot and it's great. They have a vacation home upstate and it goes throw 4 feet of unplowed snow with no problem at all, so it should be able to handle the 'mean streets' of Long Island I should say that the 3rd row seat is only comfortable for a short person or child. I'm 5'4' and it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't volunteer to sit back there again!

My DH has a 2004 Highlander & we both love it! It does ride like a car. Has the third row seat that folds into the floor.

Now that the wedding is getting closer and we might want a new addition to our family we have started looking at the new lincoln navigator ( which I am head over heels in love with) since it has 3rd row seating

I just leased the 2004 Highlander a few weeks ago and love it so far. Has the third row for seating. IMO it drives nicer than the Pilot, and you will get a better deal with Toyota than Honda.

Dh recommends the Highlander, or the Lexus....whatever you feel more comfortable in. (He works for Toyota as a tech) but he does not reccomend the Sequoia....
