Swan Club or George Washington Manor

My FI and I have narrowed down our search for a reception site to these two places. We liked both of them a lot (and found them to be beautiful) but have several concerns. I'll be going back to both places tomorrow, but do you have any feedback and/or suggestions?

Our concern for GWM is that it may be too small - we want about 120-130 guests at the wedding. Will there be enough room for our dancing and our guests to mingle? Also, how did the music sound in the back room with all of the windows? Our major concern about the Swan Club is that we may not get the attention we want because there are several events going on at the same time. When we first visited the place on a Sunday morning, the banquet manager rushed through the information and seemed to be in a hurry to work with the next couple. We saw about three other couples waiting to see the Swan Club and there were two weddings setting up, so the manager could have been overwhelmed.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

We are having our reception at the SwanClub :) . we went to look at the hall on a random tuesday and they didnt rush us. the only think i can think of is a sunday might be a bit busy for them. Good luck with your choice :)

I recently had my shower at Washington Manor. Beautiful place. I had about 90 ladies and it was fine. (but then again there was no dancing). For 130 guests I think it might be a bit tight.

I've been to a wedding at the Swan Club and it was great....food, service, etc. Good luck with choosing.

Ive been to a wedding and a few retirement parties at the Swan Club...the food is really good and there is plenty of room...for the wedding there was another one going on, but i didn't know until I went to the bathroom...

great place and setting for the money.

Our second choice was GW Manor. We ended up going with Sans Souci.

I went to a wedding a few years ago at Swan Club and the food was good and the grounds were beautiful. But when we went to look there for our wedding, the manager was trying to show us where the guests would go to get to the bathrooms, and took us into a party that was going on. Then he said 'Ooops! I always go the wrong way.' My FH refused to even consider them after that. He figured that if the staff couldn't figure out how to get around, our guests would have no hope.

I went to a wedding at GWM and it was beautiful and the food was terrific. I would highly recommend it but I think 130 would be tight. I think my friend had about 120-130 and it fit and we had a great time but was a little tight. I think the cocktail hour room was crowded too. There was room for dancing and we had no problem hearing the music and we were in the back corner table.

I had my wedding at GW Manor and I have to say people still say great things about the place four months later. I had 129 people and had the same concerns but there was plenty of room, music sounded fine, etc. I just got my video back the other day and even on the video the place looked bright, clean and classy. i've never been to the swan club, but we looked at gw manor, and we liked it a lot. it would have been too small for us, but i thought the manor was really nice. it just has a nice glow, kind of vibe to it with the lighting and the windows. and if you get a nice day/night, you can have the outside thing downstairs. keep asking around about the size, but if you are worried the carriage house at milleridge is very nice too and has a similiar feel to it. i think it holds 150 or so. they are both owned by the same people.

Thank you for all of the advice! I visited both places with my FMIL and we both liked the Swam Club better than George Washington Manor. The only problem we had with GWM is that it is not wheelchair accessible and we have 3 elderly relatives on walkers who cannot climb a flight of stairs. There would be no way that these relatives could walk down a whole flight of stairs to cocktail hour and walk back up to the reception area. When we posed this problem to the banquet manager, she could not offe a solution. It's too bad because I really loved the ambiance at GWM. I would highly recommend this place to anyone having a small wedding.

Wish this post was in january when I am attending a wedding at GW manor but i hear great things about it, Swan club I hear is beautiful and I have not ever been there but i hear the food is not great.
