Swine Flu

seriously this is just too much!! I heard over the news earlier this morning that there has been 8 cases of this type of flu confirmed here in NYC!!! that is scary! and some students from St Francis Prep H.S are infected they have cancelled schools for today and tomorrow. I feel bad for these kids because they went to Cancun for their senior trip and now one of them got infected and infected other students!!!....Gov Patterson has raised the health alert in nyc!!! my prayers go to those family members going thru this!!!

My bosses FW works at prep.
She is not happy as to whats going on.

From what ive been told the kids went on that trip with no parental supervison.
Now the school is in talks to send out memos telling parents not to let the students go in the future

I am really freaked out by it! I received an email that there is 'Global concern' over this.

One a slightly humerous note, the guy giving out metros by the subway was telling people to read about SWAN flu.

Yes, it is highly contagious, but it's still just a mild flu. The media like to make people paranoid.

First off, they are calling it a 'disease'. This is not a disease, it is a virus.

Secondly, all the students who tested positive are fine. The are alreay over it and feeling better.

So, sure we are all at risk of getting it, but 2 days of rest and plenty of liquid, if you do get it, and you will be fine. Only the elderly or people with weakened ammune systems are in serious danger if they contract it.

So, calm down. Sure, it wold suck to get the flu but it's really not that big of a deal if it happens. I happen to live by prep, and drove past it 4 times this weekend. There were news vans all over the place....Is nothing else going on in the world right now?

We don't live in Mexico. We have access to doctors and pharmacies and are generally in bettrer health due to proper sanitary conditions and better diet. It's very sad that the pandemic is taking lives down there, but here in New York we are not going to see the same type of death toll.

Re: Swine Flu

my mom works for the health dep and was dreading going into work today because of all the hype the media is giving this. She says that yes it is something to be concerned about but she guarantees she will have 100s of students/adults coming in today with symptoms and over half of them will be misdiagnosed with swine flu. Its the typical media causing hysteria thing. It is a flu virus yes it can be serious if you dont take care of it but that shouldnt happen here. The people who passed from it in Mexico do no have acess to the health care we do (which is another suky issue). I think it is insane for prep to send memos telling parents not to let their kids go on vacation. it is an airborne sickness so should you stop your life because of it and every other disease you may get by leaving the house. I am a huge germaphobe but i dont let it effect me living my life You just have to take normal health care precautions and you should be fine. Wash your hands frequently not just with antibacterial gel, cough or sneeeze into your elbow, and avoid going out if you arent feeling well.
