Switching Churches or Getting Married in a Church not your own? Is this possible?
My church is giving me a really hard time about almost everything. So, now I'm thinking about maybe going to another church to get married. Is this possible? I don't know what the protocol is or if they even allow it. Mom says that both churches would have to agree to it and you have to have a really good reason and that they probably won't do it. Have any of you gotten married in a church that wasn't your own parish or Fi's parish? What did you have to do? Was it really difficult? Thanks so much.

I am getting married in my own parish, but I have heard the same thing. If a bride wants to get married outside of her parish she needs letters of approval, both parishe's need to agree and she needs all her paper work (birth certificates, baptizmal, etc..) I heard its one huge headache.

I would call the church you are interested in and ask it couldn't hurt Good Luck

If you are not a member of the church it is a pain in the butt! But it can be done, we did it!
EDITED to say that because Fh and myself were not members of the church, they denied us 3x then I became a member, and they finally sent us a letter of acceptance!

My church was already booked for our date so we are getting married in another church. You need to get a letter from your parish saying that it is ok for you to get married at another church. Also, call up the church you are interested in because only some churches will allow you to do this.

I am getting married outside my parish and I had no problems..
all you have to do is call up your church and ask them for a letter of release. ONce you get that, you then present that to the church where you want to get married. My church didn't give me any problems.. you could always tell them that you plan on marrying out of town or perhaps at the groom's church>?
