Switching vendors

Has anyone ever changed a vendor after leaving a deposit? I don't want to say exactly what it is I want to switch but it is a major vendor, I loved them and I know many on these boards do as well, but FI talked to two good friends who used another vendor and now he wants to switch. The vendor I selected has great reviews and I know will be great!! I put down the deposit and felt good about it, he was not with me that day but was ok that I went ahead without him at that time. I don't know what to do. It was one of the first things I booked. I'm pretty sure I can get my deposit back but am completely second guessing myself now. I never imagined it would be so stressful. I'm happy to see him interested but I feel like we are taking steps backwards and second guessing. The vendor he wants to go with is more expensive but he's says not to worry. We've talked about it but he really still wants to switch. I'm at a loss and getting very upset about it all!!
