Fh has bad teeth, not bad per se, but he has a major underbite and gaps in his teeth and for some stupid reason his parents never rbought him to an orthodontist and his dentist never sent him to one.
So he went for the first time today and the first thing he says when he calls me is 'I hate my parents. Why didn't they give me braces when i was 8?!' So now to to correct all of this he has 2 options, clear braces, which the doctor will take off before the wedding and then put them back on, and invisalign.
The downside to the invisalign is that they have these graduated 'steps' and you order all of the steps at once, so if something goes wrong, or you decide to stop, you can't, and the dentist can't adjust it, so it's a risk, plus you have to pay for more of it up front than the regular braces *the price difference is only about $400).
has anyone had braces or invisalign as an adult? What would you reccomend? What was your experience?

Braces absolutely suck and hurt. If his teeth are really that bad and the orthodontist is willing to remove them and put them back on, then I say go with the braces though. There is more control and honestly, my teeth were super crooked and within the first 6 months (and i wore them for over 2) I was already thrilled and would've been fine to remove them! They have shifted some since they were removed (I got mine really late in high school...so I was basically an adult), but considering my problem was crooked/no space and they removed none of my teeth, I am not complaining. The braces will hurt and he should definitely decide in the next week so that he has lots of time before your wedding in December for them to get looking pretty good. I haven't known anyone who has used invisalign actually, so as painful as I found braces, I still recommend them...besides, if he was looking to lose weight, he's found a great way....lol

Thanks so much for the advice. He's supposed to go back next week. The dentist sad he could get a lot of results by the wedding, which I was surprised by. That would be really great.

I too would vote for the braces...more control & guaranteed results. I know there were a number of threads on invisalign a few months ago, you may want to do a search

I have clear braces. I origionally wanted invisalign but my orthodontist said that i would get bettter results with the braces. He is going to take them off before the wedding and then put them back on afterwards. I definately reccomend that your FH go for the braces. They don't really bother me at all. You wil be surprised at how soon you will see results.

I have invisalign right now and I love it!!! But I also had regular braces at age 16! One thing to consider is Invisalign is really expensive

I got my braces off a little over a year ago and I'm so happy I did it. I had them when I was younger and my teeth shifted back because my wisdom teeth were never pulled so this time I had my teeth pulled and got the clear braces. It is amazing how quickly they move. I would go with the clear braces unless it bothers him that much. I only had to wear mine for a year and a 1/2. To me they move your teeth much better, I've heard mixed things about Invisalign and I know it's expensive. I was also told that your teeth should be practically perfect anyway in order to get it.
