I was doing Ladies work out express (like a curves) over the summer and I wasn't crazy about it.
I joined powerhouse and you can totally tell the difference in gyms. The weights, machines, everything. You get a better work out.

I went to curves and so did my mom. It is great! I lost inches off my waist and so did my mom. However, you have to eat healhy too.

im ok with eating healthy, i just need something that i'll see results fast and not in months.. with WW you can lose like 7 pounds in your first week but after that you lose like .5 pounds a week and thats awful. i need to lose 2-4 pounds a week

I bought a 6 month membership to curves & I did enjoy it. When you first join they take your mesurements & weigh you. You can ask to be re-measured anytime you like so you can see what kind of results you are getting. It's a 30 minute workout & they suggest you go 3 times a week. All of the machines are hydrolics, they do not have weights, so that means that the machine works as hard as you work it-The faster you move the machine, the harder your workout.
Personally, I prefer machines with weights because if one day I am feeling lazy & take it slow, your workout is basically a waste.
The good thing is that they give you a 2 week free trial- I suggest trying it out.

I did curves for a year, the only time i found significant results from it was when i really changed my eating habits. I prefer a traditional gym with weights, bikes and treadmills though...
Good Luck with whatever you decide

Hey just to be on the safe side-- losing 2-4 pounds a week for a substantial amount of time is really not that healthy. You will be able to lose that at first--however, to continually lose that will be very hard without being drastic (take it from someone who know, I've made lots of mistakes and did it all the 'wrong' way)

If you are serious about losing weight, it has to be a lifestyle choice. Anything drastic will simply come right back on the second your done dieting. I think curves is a great place, as long as you are eating moderately and excersing, then they are all great places. Sorry if this totaly sounds preachy--I just worry about people doing things too radically. FM if you want any help!

not preachy at all.. i wanna lose that amount of weight until march, then i'll slow it down a little. but its not UNhealthy either. losing more than that its really bad. I will change and make it a lifestyle, i just need a push. it ***** because i have a gym in my condo but the machines i absolutely hate, theres a curves close by but other than that, the gyms near me are either too expensive or are 25 minutes away and if i have to drive that far, i lose motivation. :-/

What if you got free weights and took them to your condo gym? There you could practice your own routine. Working with free weights is awesome and you achieve results. If you've done WW in the past, you can do it again while kicking it up some notches with your workouts.

I lost over 100 pounds doing curves and weight watchers together...i think the key is to get the exercise in there and eat right..i gained some back and am now working to get back to my lowest, where i am comfortable, but hang in there!!

that's cuz muscle weighs more than fat, so while you can be loosing inches and looking better, your weight can stay the same or even increase. my sister's college roommate had to do intense weight training b4 their basketball season, and she gained 10lbs, but her pants were falling off. they say the gym can be your worst enemy at the beginning b/c you work so hard but the scale says there's nothing to show for it. but after a little bit the lbs will come off too.

cardio is the best way to lose lbs, but mix it up with some light weights to tone yourself too. i personally just do situps and free weights at home and try to mix up the cardio (walk, jump rope, ddr, climbing my stairs, etc). also, when i know i'm gonna be busy, i've been strapping on a pair of light ankle weights so that way i get a little out of even just going to the mall.

I had a year membership. The circuit routine is a great concept. It keeps you moving.

Personally, I didn't feel like I there was enough cardio for me.

I've been going to Curves for the past 3 months, it's been the only workout I can stick with and without dieting I do feel a big change in my body... although I only lost about 10 lbs in all that time, I'm a lot more toned and my clothes are a lot looser. But if you're looking to lose a lot of weight fast, I don't think Curves alone will do it unless you do a lot of other cardio on the side and eat really well.

i did it a few years back and hated it - it was all really old ladies in there - i felt like i was in a nursing home plus my doctor actually told me to stop because he said it doesnt do anything for your really aerobically since you are constantly starting and stopping an exercise
