We just bought a house, and I'm not what you'd call 'handy' But FH and I want to fix the place up a bit before the wedding. There's a really ugly wallpaper border going around one of the bedrooms. How do I get that off?
In another bedroom, the walls are in terrible condition... what are some things I can do (other than hang lots of pictures) to mask/fix that?
TIA!

Okay..the border...at Home Depot and Lowe's they sell this stuff ZIFF or something like that. It looks like a gel version of windex (blue) it comes in a spray bottle, spray it, let it soak and it literally peels off. You may need to respray and scrape stray pieces with a putty knife. You will finish that border in less than an hour.
The walls, if you really want to do it right (I'm assuming by condition you mean cracks and holes) you're going to have to sand and spackle then paint. Otherwise big posters from IKEA.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Think that Ziff stuff would work on panelling?

i used that stuff too for our house!! it worked well... i recomend you spray it on and let it sit for a couple minutes.. once it soaks.. it should come right off!
i think it would be ok for paneling..
another option is to get really thin layers of sheetrock and put it right over the existing wall.. we are going to do that in our bathroom.

Ugh we're having the same problem with a police car/fire truck border in our 'office'. It drives me crazy! I have heard good things about that ziff stuff...they also sell it at walmart

It worked! It looks like windex, but a gel consistency... anyway, spray it on, spread it out with a paintbrush, wait ten minutes, and it peels right off! It took me under an hour to deal with the border. Now if we can cover the turquoise and yellow paint, we'll be set!

Congrats!
Was your other question about the glue on the paneling? You may have to use a heat-gun or blow dryer to soften the glue and then scrape it off with a metal putty knife.
