SWR: Househunting and $ questions - may be personal?
This may be a personal question since its money related but FH and I have set the goal of buying a house in the next year so I am trying to do research and come up with a reasonable financial plan for this.
My question if you own a home or have details from someone you know:
what was the listing price of your house? what was the purchase price? how much did you put down?
if you feel comfortable answering i would reaaaally appreciate it!! thanks so much!! (or you could always FM me if you feel more comfortable!)

we put down 24% (i sold my co-op which had appreciated since i bought it) we paid $24K less than the original asking price, but $14K less than the list price after they had dropped it.

i bought a co-op so it's slightly different ...
i paid exactly the asking price (which was the appraisal price) ... i tried negotiating down the price but the lady wouldn't budge.
I put down exactly 10% of the price and closing costs were about $4000.
house prices are very different depending on the size of the house and the location ... check out MLSLI.com and look at house prices in the areas you like

we are in contract on a house. we are putting down 20%, our offer is only 4k less than asking because we really wanted the house (we have been looking for a year) and we were going through crazy bidding wars and didn't want to lose out on a good house.... good luck w/ the process!!!

It will be hard to compare solely because some seller overprice their house and others underprice it... Ours was listed at 295 and we bought for 275.... This was about what all our comps were going for... We put down 20k with an FHA loan which equaled about 7% for us... but with FHA you can put down as low as 3.5%..
