I'm going to my college friend's wedding this weekend out of state. I speak/email with her a few times a year and see her maybe once per year (she moved across the country). The wedding is being held at a Marriott. How much would you give as a gift? Would you give the same to a similar friend who lives on LI and requires no travel expenses?

Re: SWR: How much $ as a gift?
I would give the same as I would anyone else. If I thought it would cost too much to get to the wedding and give a good gift, then I probably would not go and just send a gift. JMO though.

It's really hard to say, because it really depends on your relationship, but I'd probably give $150.

I only give what I can afford - no matter where the wedding is.

You should give the same amount no matter if you have to travel or not. Like someone else mentioned, if you are not that close, I wouldn't travel and just send a present from her registry.

Same here. I give what I can give. Just because a couple decided to spend major $$ on an event doesn't mean guests should have to cough up the extra dough. That's the way I see it. Anything you give will be an act of genorosity and should be appreciated
