If it's any consolation, we were extremely close to booking the Bucuti Beach Resort - the Tara Suites specifically there. The main draw was no kids allowed at the hotel.
And I always check Tripadvisor like a mad woman.
Hope that helps!!

I absolutely love tripadvisor!
When looking at it, you have to imagine yourself right in the middle of their opinions. There are always over-zealous opinions of a resort and people that hated it, I always think 'Im probably right in the middle', and use that as a basis. People are posting from there from all over the world, of all different incomes, backgrounds, etc. just something to keep in mind when reading.

Tripadvisor IS evil! when I was looking for resorts I read through a zillion reviews and pictures. There are some very scary pics out there!

I love tripadvisor, but don't worry too much about bad reviews as long as most of the reviews are good ones. THere will always be a few sour grapes! If it helps, we went to the aruba grand, and it got a lot of bad reviews, and we loved it..

you're not alone! picking our HM destination was BY FAR the hardest choice we made. we spent months researching and arguing about it. but in the end... we made the right decision and it was worth the fuss!

I'm sure you've looked through the reviews and all on there, but have you checked out the chat section?? Post a question on there or do a search of the hotels you're choosing. I love tripadvisor!

WOW YOU HIT A SOFT SPOT!!!! (ETA: pressed enter before finishing my reply ) I work for a hotel, and am in Sales, so I hate Trip Advisor for the reasons most people probably love it. People never write a review on Trip Advisor when they love a hotel, only when it they an unresolved problem with their stay. So my advice is take it all with a grain of salt!

I disagree. I've read plenty of wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor. It was an enormous help when trying to book a few of the hotels we stayed at on our HM and other vacations. There will always be a few bad reviews, but as long as a majority of them are positive, the hotel is probably a good choice.

No not insane at all. The website is www.tripadvisor.com and it's a Travel website that you can look up reviews for hotels, restaurants, etc. It also has a great chat section for whatever part of the world you're interested in so you can post questions or ask for advice from those who have already been! Try it out!

Oh well, I respect your opinions, and I should have said Rarely instead of Never. Tripadvisor can be a very useful tool, but my experience comes from the opposite end of the spectrum, so I'm a little biased. But in the end, I really think you should be careful because you never know who these reviewers really are or what their backgrounds are. If there are chat sites on TripAdvisor, I think that would be more reliable since, like LIW, you can actually get more info from people and have an exchange. JMHO

thanks ladies... my brain literally was melting last night. i am stilllll totally confused..especially now that fh is mentioning barbados...
for the love of god!!!!!!!
cant ... take ....i t... annnnyyymore!!!!!!!!! sommmmone pleeease make the descision forrrr meeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! balalahaharrrrr
joking of course.
well maybe teehee
we want mellow white sand blue water..... nothing party central..... and we arent hoity toity but neither do we want to compromise tooo much either on our hm.
thanks for listening ladies...this is definately the hardest choice!!
As a rule of thumb I ususally try to look at the NY, NJ, CT people's experiences because I feel like they have similiar expectations as I do. Someone from overseas, for example, might have a different basis for comparison, JMO.
