as some of you know, I had my wisdom tooth pulled out last week, well ANYWAY..... I have this really funny taste in my mouth, and my breath smells 'like rotting tooth' (according to FH) 'Like moth balls' (one of the kids I babysit) 'bad' (another kid I baby sit) and 'sick smelling' my mom. I know my shower is some time this month and I am just nervouse that my mouth will still be in this state. Does anyone know when my breath will return to it's former state? So gross... I know...
TIA

Talk to your dentist - he'll advise you on what you can safely do to treat this problem!

Also try Listerine....the original formula. That works wonders sometimes.
I would also call the dentist to be sure that it's not an infection or some other problem.

Could it be that the gum is still open, being that there is going to be a hole in it from the missing tooth? If it is, Gargle with salt water & mouthwash a few times a day. You have to let the gums heal itself. You may have an infection if the smell (or taste) dont go away.
Good luck!

Yep, and call your dentist if if doesn't go away, you might have an infection causing the smell.

Yes, you could have an infection creating the smell.

It kinda sounds like dry socket. Are you having intense pain? I got dry socket last year and it just smelled like rotting bone....

Re: SWR: Kind gross problem I am having...
My sister had problems with a dry socket and she went back to the dentist and he puts medicated dressings in her mouth and the problem cleared up almost instantly- I think you should call your dentist. I think if you have a concern you should be able to post it too! You did warn people and no one has to read it if they dont want to. I am having mine out in 2 weeks so maybe I'll need a question answered too-

Re: SWR: Kind gross problem I am having...
when I had my wisdom teeth pulled I used Biotene. It's a very very mild mouthwash and I didn't have that icky smell/taste in my mouth. I wish I knew about that the first round of wisdom teeth removal.

first off i wouldn't use listerine you could make it worse with the alcohol in it. yeah it does sound like dry socket, call your dr as soon as you can it only takes like 2 mins to fix.

Re: SWR: Kind gross problem I am having...
I had my wisdom teeth taken out several years ago. The gross smell is the dried up blood. As you heal the smell will go away. Do you rinse with saltwater to help get rid of the dried up blood in your mouth?

I had mine pulled last week too!!!!!!!!!!!
I was told to rinse with salt and water for 1 week and then I can start using listerine again!
I already started yesterday...
Definitely gargle... It helps fight infections!
Good luck!!!
