I need someone to watch my dog while I am on the honeymoon (Nov 3-12). Last time we went away, we took her to a kennel and she peed in the house for like a month after that - I think it's related somehow (not medical, behaviorial). And she doesn't really get along with other dogs, but I think she's getting better.
Ideally, I'd love to have someone I know stay at my house. If that is not possible (I've been asking around, and I'm not getting any takers), I'd want her to stay at someone else's house (who doesn't have dogs or cats) for the whole 10 days.
Anyone have a petsitter they TRUST and who loves all dogs (I have a pit bull)??? I don't have a ton to spend so I am looking for someone very reasonable but not cheap of course.
Or, anyone know a petsitter who doesn't stay over but will come to your house a few times a day to let a dog out, feed her and play with them for a bit? This is my last resort but I think it's better than her being in a cage or crate for 10 days.
TIA!!!!

Re: SWR: Pet sitter?
there are a few organizations that will provide you with someone who is licensed & bonded (the most important thing).
Give me a few - i'll dig them up. (i used to help out a friend who did this full time in jersey)
I have a friend who is a vet tech ( animal nurse) and some of her other friends (also vet techs) are pet sitters. I am not sure how far they travel though or pricing.

Re: SWR: Pet sitter?
I will ask JOe if he still has her number, but there is a girl in my town how is an animal lover, she works for a pet grooming company in LB and also does pet sitting. I actually went to high school with her and ran into her recently in Long Beach. I am not sure if she will stay at your house but I can see if I can get you her number.

Thanks! I live in Huntington though, so if she works in Long Beach I would think that commute is too much...
Thanks - found four places near me but unfortunately they are all out of my price range ... I may have to go back to begging my friends if they are all this pricey ...

Jenn I would love to help you out (my dog will not go in a Kennel either) but I will be on my honeymoon too -- the same dates.
I would ask my parents but unfortunately my dog and pit bulls do not make a good mix -- the one next door gives my dog nothing but trouble.

No worries Anne - my dog gets very excited around other dogs and it can be seen as agression by some, so I don't really like her around other dogs. She's great with people though and a cutie.
I was really looking for names of pet sitters people have used - so sweet of you (and a few others) to say you would do it if you could!

Re: SWR: Pet sitter?
the most important thing jenn is to make sure you get someone (as i said before) who is licensed and bonded.
This not only protects YOU, but the sitter as well. God forbid they get hurt on your property, steal something, etc.
The licensing and bonding protects you from all that.

Re: SWR: Pet sitter?
girls - if anyone needs a pet sitter, my brother's fiancee is a licensed Vet Tech in Stony Brook. She does pet sitting very frequently. FM me if you need info or are interested.
She is very sweet, obviously very well qualified and will travel
HTH!

Same here. My dog is also a pit mix but a scaredy pit, so much so that he is taking to pooping around other animals due to the stress-it scares the ____ out of him (literally). He has a brain tumor and is the biggest people lover and needs attention. He is almost 12 and has never been boarded. My mom won't take him, she is scared of him and other issues. My sister got a dog and he pooped when they met. FBIL got a dog this yr too and he pooped there too. Landlord got a dog too this year. I saw a an ad for a place that looked good, but money is also an issue.
