SWR: planning a party long distance... help

i know that there are a few brides/brides-to-be on this message board who have planned their wedding long-distance. i need some help!!

i want to plan a surprise 60th b-day party for my father. he lives where i grew up, southern california.

i would love some help as to how would i start planning long-distance. how would i find a list of locations where we can have the party? what 'key' phrases should i use when looking for a place online?

any help will be greatly appreciated.
