so i havent smoked since i was in the hospital for tests (see other post)... and as i said it seems i put on 2 pounds. Here is my issue. After my 50+ pound weight loss in 2002 my normal weight is between 108 and 116. Recently i went up to 137 from my bad schedule when i was working and other factors. I just went back to weight watchers like 3.5 weeks ago where i weighed in at 133.4. i didnt go this past monday but in the first 2 weeks i dropped 4 pounds. I got on the scale after getting home from the hospital and it seems i put on about 2 lbs (also have my period though). I think i can quit smoking..but A .. my dress does not fit... and B. i am so afraid i will not lose any more weight.. i am super depressed at this weight and will never be happy if i have to walk down the aisle after my dress has been taken out ( i still cant even look at my Eparty pics)... i spent too many yrs over weight and unhappy.. i already have a really slow metabolism and i am stressing now!! Anyone go through this.. what can i do to make sure i can still lose weight if i can continue to not smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!! they say ure post smoking weight gain happens within 6 months of quitting and thats exactly how long i have til my wedding now.
btw.. trust me i know how much healthier it is not to smoke and weight can be lost but ure lungs u need... i def get that.. im not stupid... it's just my wedding day... my shower.. my epics.. i cant imagine being unhappy and not looking like i used to... it would just make me too sad!! i need to be able to lose this weight!!! i'm only 5'2' ... i can't walk at this weight.. i get out of breath ..my muscles hurt..and i never felt that way when i was 20 plbs thinner... i need to lose this weight!! TIA ladies

Re: SWR: quitting smoking and gaining weight???
5'1 here...and as you know, a donut can put a visible inch on our tiny frames. I quit smoking last march and not only didn't gain weight...I lost some and I toned up. It was the best I ever looked and I'm working hard now to get back to that. Smoking was my attempt to have some control over my life...it was my addiction. When I gave it up, I needed something new to control and be addicted to. And, I was terrified of gaining weight. So, I ate all natural, homemade, not processed food within the Basal Metabolic Calorie range for my height and weight. And, I went to the gym religiously. I did the incline treadmill or the elliptical and then some weights. Four months after quitting smoking, I was still emotionally craving them, but I looked fantastic. If you're feeling like you CAN quit...do it now. It will save your life. Just be mindful that your hunger WILL increase and you need to make healthy choices. It all starts with smart grocery shopping. If you already live with FH, tell him to keep his junk food out of the house for the next 4-6 months while you work on saving your life from smoking and overweight-related health issues. You CAN DEFINITELY DO THIS!!!!!! And why wouldn't you.....a bride with a cigarette isn't exactly an image of purity and beauty, right??? FM me anytime....I've seen the good ,the bad and the absolute ugly when it comes to both quitting smoking and obsessing about not gaining weight.

Re: SWR: quitting smoking and gaining weight???
thanks so much!!!! and congrats on your huge accomplishment. I did light up a cigarette ... i only had a few pulls but i'm so mad at my self now because i see how just that one triggered my cravings even more than before i had it!!!! but seeing that i went from wed - sat morning with out a cigarette ... i realize i can do it now!!!! it's my mental addiction more than my physical!!!!! I'm so glad to hear that with diet and excersize i can avoid the dreaded weight gain because i really would like to be rid of this habbit....especially by the time we are married... i want to start a family and don't want to be smoking while i do it! thank you for ure advice...and again congrats..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: SWR: quitting smoking and gaining weight???
I don't want to sound like a bummer, but it is very difficult to do both together. I was in my 20's before my first wedding and quit. My breasts were almost popping out of my wedding gown. Quitting smoking should be your priority though right now, especially because you have health issues. Use the money to buy healthy snacks as the other person pointed out. I ate a lot of sunflower seeds, it kept my hands busy, chew gum, eat lollipops, get hard candy. You will be able to taste food again and you will want to eat more. go to the gym and start exercising or walk now that the weather is getting nicer. You can control the weight you gain. You are young enough to do it. I did it and it is for the best. Also think of the future, if you want to have kids, you shouldn't smoke when pregnant and it is wrong to smoke with kids around.

Re: SWR: quitting smoking and gaining weight???
I am trying to lose my weight from when I quit smoking, but it's not that you automatically put it on... I stopped caring about what I ate. My best friend quit and lost almost 80 pounds, all at the same time. You can totally keep the weight off, it is just easy to turn to food when you remove something that you used to turn to when: upset, depressed, anxious, bored. I am getting back on the WW train now that I depressed the crap out of myself dress shopping.

Re: SWR: quitting smoking and gaining weight???
thnx girls. I really do wanna quit cause i know it will help with my anxiety.. i wouldnt be as worried about the weight if i hadnt put so much extra on already... but the smoking isnt helping my anxiety any and probably my stomach issues either. I spoke to my doctor today and he said we could try a pill... he doesn't think nicotine replacement like the patch or gum would be good for me.. but we are gonna talk more about it during my appointment monday. I'm trying really hard to at least keep my smoking to a minimum right now so maybe i'll be able to cut down little by little on my own. But i def hope to be done with it by the time i'm married!!!

i know how you feel..dress shopping was so hard for me... especially since only a yr before i was at my lowest and best weight ever and then i got engaged and put on 20 plbs or so. I went for my try on when my dress came in and it wouldnt zip.. so i am super worried about it.. but WW should help... i've been going for 4 weeks now..but my hospital stay and stomach problems threw me a little...so i'm hoping to get back on track!!!!!!!!!!!! if u ever need someone to talk to about WW u can def. Re: SWR: quitting smoking and gaining weight???
I dont smoke and never have and am a little bit taller than you but just figured I would post on here for moral support.. Im so against smoking and now that I am in Grad school to become a speech language pathologist and look at pics of peoples vocal folds who have been affected by smoke,. it kills me that they dont get it until its too late! SO I wanted to congratulate you on making one of hte smartest decisions in your life .. in quitting smoking. You are doing your body and your state of mind a great thing.. About the gaining weight.. its probably becuase you JUST quit,. I didn't see your other posts so im not sure as to why you were in the hospital. but give it some time.. Try to be food conscious and maybe invest in shopping at TRADER JOES>. they have great healthy snacks. REmember.. as ladies we ned to eat three balanced meals a day and a few snacks here and there. Skipping meals with only slow down your metabolism. Try to go walking atleast for 20 minutes, 5 days a week.. YOu will do it dont worry and also THINK POSITIVE! HTH!

Re: SWR: quitting smoking and gaining weight???
I lost about 50lbs 2 yrs ago - then we quit smoking and I gained it all back ...so depressing but my own fault. We quit for over 1 year. I recently joined ww too and it is slow but ok. I am thinking baout joining curves - I am too uncomfortable to go to a big gym like NYSC. You can do this keep healthy snacks on hand and try to walk or work out a bit. No matter what you are beautiful !!!

I quit in July with Chantix. I actually only used the pills for a month because they made me feel like I had morning sickness. I did gain wait, but I'm not sure if it was the smoking, or my just being addicted to food! I've been going to ww for a month now, and I'm down a little over 10lbs. It's slow, but steady. I think it can be done to quit and not gain, just choose your 'snacks' very wisely!! Carrots...instead of a cig, grab a carrot.
