SWR: taking gifts back

there is an item i registered for and got for my shower.

now that the dust and excitement has settled, i'm re-thinking my need for it.

has anyone encountered this situation? what did you do?

btw: to let you know what it is... it's a kitchen gadget. a creme brulee set (with the blowtorch)

a creme brulee set (with the blowtorch)????? LOL

I did this w a lot of stuff I got off my registry (and some ugly crap that I got that I didn't want in the first place...sorry that is a swore spot of mine) if you know the store you got it from just take it back...they will give you a gift card for the value of the item (the purchase price) if it's from BBB they will give you cash back.

it was bbb. the ticket price is still on the box.

i don't know what i was thinking, asking for it

btw: i, too, got some crap that i didn't ask for from dh's sister (notice, i don't call her 'sil') anyway, i already took that back

LOL...did DH's sister buy the crap you didn't want from the store you registered at? That is what POed me....so you can make it all the way to the store where I am registered, know I'm registered there.....AND THEN YOU BUY ME SOME UGLY CRAP THAT'S NOT ON MY REGISTRY what's up with that? and the funniest thing is the ugly crap I got is more expensive than anything I registered for???

This happened to me also. We registered for something and decided we didn't want it. Everything I brought back, I got store credit. Fortunoff, especially, has been great with this. My Aunt bought us the wrong grill (we registered for a cheaper one) and then didn't have the registry scanned at the register. I felt bad that she bought the wrong one so I took it back to Fortunoff without a receipt. With no proof that it was purchased there, they still took it back for store credit. I think stores understand that these things happen all the time.

i returned things we registered for... I realized we totally didn't need them and I got caught up in the excitement of registering for ridiculous things I will never use. Its better to return and get something you need and will use than to have something that will sit in a box forever.

I didn't return anything I registered for but I did return a batch of stuff that I didn't register for.

This happened with me. I took it back to BB&B and got my money back since it was on my registry.

When my husband and I moved in together we bought everything for our home brand new so we didn't need anything at all that could be put on a registry. I know it sounds harsh, but we registered at BB&B simply because we found out that you can get cash back for registry returns. We returned about 80% of the gifts we got and then deleted them from our registry so the gift givers wouldn't be able to tell that we did so.

Hey Hallowedding-
I like your avatar saying (Bride for a day, wife for life). And from your pic, looks like you have really interesting proofs. I hope you'll post them!

The reason I'm dying is because the creme brulee torch set was the first gift we received off the registry 2 years ago for Christmas!! (My DH is the cook and he did all the kitchen stuff.) I said 'What the heck is that? We don't need that, I can't believe you put that on the registry! There's the first ridiculous gift we should take back.' He argued. It still sits in the box never used.

It's become a running joke in my family. They always ask if I've had creme brulee yet. In fact, they asked if we are brining it to my parent's house for Christmas.

You made my day!!!
