I'm a NYC guidance counselor, and I can't take the chronic breeches of ethics, the pettiness, the backstabbing, and the work overload that are the norm in my school. I've got to get out.
I know that there are job positngs on NY Times and the OLAS website. Where else am I likely to find job postings? How do I find information about upcoming educatior job fairs? Please help me. I'm a lil desperate here.
Thanks.

Re: SWR: Teachers, please help me find a new job....
How much experience do you have? There is a lot of competition in trying to get a job on LI.... how long have you been working at this school? If you leave, would you get paid full-time and have insurance? I know if I left the city to get a job on LI right now, I would prob. get hired as a long- term sub and that comes with no benefits and I don't get paid for breaks (Christmas, etc.). I've had tough experiences with OLAS, maybe b/c I had little experience and didnt have my masters at the time. Def. try to look for openings- also try going to schools and handing it in personally. Also, where in the city do you work? What about trying Queens (if you dont have that much experience, b/c you might not get hired on LI)??

Re: SWR: Teachers, please help me find a new job....
This is my fifth year. Ironically enough, I work in Queens now. I've had my masters for awhile and have permanant certification.
If I can't escape right now, I desperately want to find a new job for September 09. Are there other sites besides OLAS and NY Times with job postings?

There use to be an agency in Valley Stream called the GA Agency, I'm talking over 17 years ago when I was looking for a job. They were an employment agency for educators. You can see if they are still around, they may work with private schools, etc.
I know by law public schools have to post it in the paper so not sure if the agency would be best for a public school position.

I only know of OLAS. I want to get out of the city too. But I might stick out a whole other year to get my tenure.

Nassau BOCES lists job within the school districts, plus they have a list of all the nassau county schools so you can look on each school's individual website for job openings. It's very helpful.
