Sympathy cards...

Sympathy cards...

Do you send them to your parents or immediate family members? It's kind of awkward, I think, to say 'sorry for your loss' when ti's supposedly your loss too...

I don't. In my opinion, if it's a family member, you've all suffered the loss, with varying degrees, so it's redundant.

I usually do sympathy cards for non-relatives.

I will buy a card for the person who was closest to the passed on family member.

I guess the situation is kind of awkward because it was my dad's mother who passed away but we weren't really very close to her. My aunt was her primary care person, and I know she was pretty upset. I bought a card for her, but haven't for my dad... I almost feel like it's too impersonal to buy my dad a sympathy card...

I agree with the impersonal nature, that's why I shy away from sympathy cards, especially with family. Give your dad a call, email him. That will be better than some hallmark card.
