We are having table names for our reception, they will each be a different golf course (our wedding is at Carlyle on the Green at Bethpage State Park). Should we:
1) Pay a hefty fee to have each one done as a 'sketch' of a part of that golf course plus the name on it. By sketch I mean, a photo that the designer will play around with so it looks like a sketch.
2) Pay a much smaller fee for a template that will match our menus and placecards, it will include the table name and some other golf reference
Am I crazy? Do people other than me even care about the little touches? the difference in price is in the hundreds....

no, you are definitely not crazy.
I voted #2 b/c you said the price difference is in the hundreds- however, if you REALLY like the sketchs idea (which sounds amazing and I am sure any avid golfer would appreciate- which would be a miracle in itself b/c men almost NEVER notice details of a wedding, but I digress) and it won't hurt too much to spend the money, do what you want.

Can you take a picture of the golf course, play around with it on your own computer to give it that sketch look, and make your own table name things? This way you'd get the best of both, the sketch without the price...

Thanks Jessica. We would have them to keep afterwards too...I could frame a few of them for our home, you know?
I think I'm going to see what FH says...he's the avid golfer and would love it...but he's also more level-headed about this stuff...

Def option 2! I could see the sketch being really awesome and I'm sure it'll look great, you're right in thinking that the little details might go unnoticed. Some people may notice, but I'm unsure if it'll be to the point where it's worth it to pay that much $$. So I would stick with something more simple and use your $$ where it could be better spent.

Ok, check this out...this is a pic of I took of the clubhouse down at FH's family's condo development in NC...the 'sketches' I am envisioning would look something like this (obviously sharper) with the name is nice font....
I did both of those effects in Ofoto...I guess I can do them myself, huh?? they don't look so bad.

I think this would be your best bet. But if you have the $$$ to spare, this is something really nice you can splurge on. It's a great personal touch!!!

I think option 2 is best but if you can do the sketches yourself, do that! It will be a nice touch without spending the extra $$

As a fellow golf themed Carlyle bride, I say to save the money and go with option 2... And knowing us, we'll be the only people to remember the small golf touches that we painstakingly added
