table naming question - need opinions

table naming question - need opinions

We were planning on naming our tables after dances (swing, foxtrot, waltz, etc), but now that I'm putting together the tables, I'm wondering if this is just a dumb idea.
We have almost 20 tables and there aren't that many good dance names.

Another idea was to use movie titles of classic romances, but we had even more trouble coming up with those...

Is it cheesy? What would your reaction be if you saw this at a wedding? What's everyone else doing?
Honest opinions please - I can take it ;)

table naming question - need opinions

I think it`s a great idea to name tables! We`re naming our tables after different fall things (leaves, flowers, etc). As long as you choose something that fits with your overall theme, or if you don`t have one, time of year, location of hall, etc., it will be great.

It might also be a good idea to pick a general theme, so you can come up with 20 different ones. I`ve heard suggestions such as places the couple has visited, where they`re going on their honeymoon, favorite love songs, romantic movies, and so on!

I think it's a great idea! A college friend of mine met her husband while back packing through Europe, and their wedding tables were named after European cities. : )

I think it's a great idea - and different. My FH is a big Tom Petty fan, and so I think that we are going to name the tables after Petty Songs. Hopefully we'll have enough titles!

We are naming our tables

We are naming our tables after places in Trindad/where my FI is from and Places in Jamaica where I am from.

I think naming your tables is such a nice idea, your guest will definitely remember it.

GOod luck and happy planning

i don`t understand...

I`ve never seen or heard of this idea, but I think it`s great. Is it that you have your tables named instead of numbered, or in addition to a table number you also have it named? Fill me in I love the idea.

thanks...and more

tlcoady - its names instead of numbers - it adds personality and takes away the problem of seating people at high numbered tables.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I like the idea of naming tables, I just wasn't sure if I liked naming them after dances...still thinking about it.

question/table naming

so, is there a large card in the middle of the table with the name on it, can that get too big? people have to be able to easily read it, right? do you try to limit how long the names are? this is an interesting idea, but i've never seen it done. lisat - if you can come up with 20 names I think that the dances theme is great.

question/table naming

We are trying to use song titles that are short - one or two words. I believe the cards would be just about the same size that the numbers would be, but yet big enough so that people can read them.

are you making the cards yourself??

question/table naming

We are naming the tables after places and things that have a special meaning to us, and then on the table we will have the explaination of why it is special.

What we did...

We were deciding between 2 themes when naming our tables. We are big Vegas fans and everyone knows us as gamblers so first we were going to name our tables after hotels in Vegas. We then changed our minds and decided to name the tables different places we were visiting on our honeymoon since we did a european trip as well as a cruise we had lots of places. Everyone loved the idea just make sure that you give your maitre d' a floorplan so that he can easily guide guests to their tables!

July3bride great idea...

I was thinking of the same thing as you! The last item you mentioned, placing a card on the table to explain the place or thing important to you, would you place that on each setting or one per table?

What I did

We are having Names of cities in Italy b/c thats where we`re going on our honeymoon in May. I looked for sales on pretty frames and bought 5X7 frames at Michaels-I found pictures of Italy in tourist guides and scanned them into the computer-with the scanning program that came with the scanner, I was able to make it look antiquated and write the name of the city over it. Its really not that difficult and actually kind of fun. I would have gone with an 8X10 frame, by my FI thought it was too large.
For the seating cards, we are using the small picture frames and putting the corresponding picture from the table. I hope it works OK- I also let the reception hall know, and they are giving me a map of where the table #s usually are, so that we don't confuse the wait staff.

I think Dance names is a great and different idea - I also like the romantic movie idea! - Good luck with your decision.

What about for July 4th?

I'm getting married July 4th and would like to name my tables after a july 4th theme. Can anyone think of ideas?

I am also getting married on July 4th =) *NM*

I think I am just going to do one per table. The guests at each table will just have to share! We are already having scrolls because we are doing a donation as a favor, so it might be too much paper on the table if we did them individually.

Teri-your fall theme

Teri, I'm doing a fall theme also. Could you tell me what kinds of names you're going to use at your tables and how you are going to make the table cards? I think naming the tables is a great idea! Thank you.
