Hi Girls, Just wondering if I can get your opinion on something...my FH and I are not sure if we want to go the traditional table # route, or be a little more unique and give the wedding a personal touch by doing table names... Here's the issue...my side of the family is Russian, so I'm not sure they'll appreciate/understand being seated at the 'Night at the Roxbury' table lol! I think naming the tables is super cute, I'm just not sure people will 'get it', so...what are your thoughts ? THANKS :)

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
Personally, I think that having names makes it more difficult than it needs to be to find your table. It just means that your guests have to read the table names in a dimly lit ballroom. After you find your seat, who cares if you're at the Night at the Roxbury table?

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
i think it is a cute idea if the table setting/centerpieces would match their names...but if not i really don't think it's worth it...especially if guests wont get it!

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
I think its a cute idea if it reflects your personality We personally are just doing numbers b/c we think it will be easier for our guests but I've been to weddings where they had names and I personally got a kick out of it! :o)

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
Thanks ladies! I appreciate your help :) As cute as I think naming the tables is, i think it will likely create more confusion than it is worth. I want everyone seated as quickly as possible and i dont want to hold things up...

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
Names are nice but IMO guests will have a harder time finding their tables, unless you do names & numbers together.

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
We used table names, but we only had 9 tables. If we had more, I think I would have stuck to numbers. If you have a group that might have difficulty with names or is very large, I would stick to numbers.

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
I have been struggling with this as well. I think numbers are easier for people to find but I love the name idea too. I'm leaning toward doing both (plus the placecard has such little room on it)

We are doing names. We are both teachers (science and history) and are doing famous names from our areas of study. We're Geeks.

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
Thanks for all the input, ladies! We really love the names ideas, truly, but I'm just afraid that for a relatively large party (we're prob gonna be about 150) it may cause too much traffic and commotion in trying to find seats. I think we'll do numbers just because it's easier and will (hopefully) make for less hassle...and yes, the fact that the escort cards do have very little room on them is an excellent point!

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
We did names, but we also had 70 people at our wedding--so it was manageable!
DH proposed to me with a poem by one of my favorite authors, and that poem was read at our wedding ('The Archipelago of Kisses' by Jeffrey McDaniel). Each of our tables were one of the kisses as outlined by the poem (The Sloppy Kiss, The Backseat Smooch, The Peck, The I Do Kiss, etc.). It was perfect for us, but it would have been insane if we had a larger wedding!

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
We did names and numbers...
Each table had a number, but it also had a word related to Love and Marriage, like 'adore' 'vow' 'intimacy' 'caring' 'loyal' etc (and the definition of the word)..., that way each person could find their table by number, but still have something cute and personal to us on the table number!

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
We are doing locations. We will have a picture of us in the the frame with the location printed on the pic. for example 'Germany' ,'Venice' etc. so its a place they have to remember, as opposed to a number

Re: Table Numbers Vs. Table Names
We had both. Our were Ray Charles's songs. Songs on top and numbers at the bottom.
