My mom really wants to have the photographer take photos of each table and I hate that idea. There's always half-eaten food on the table and no one looks good and I won't use them in my album. She like the idea b/c its the only want to insure you have a picture of everyone who was there. Do you have any other ideas for another way to get pics of all the guests? Any pictures you could post would be great.
Thanks!

Re: Table Photos
You can get pictures are the guests come in or have the photos taken at a different angle so that the food is not seen in the picture.

Maybe they can take them early. Basically before any food is served.

Re: Table Photos
Honestly, we were totally against table shots for the exact reasons that you mentioned. We figured that we would go around to each table and have the photographer follow us around. Well lucky for us the photographer still did table shots. True none of them are great, but the bottom line is that it only takes a couple of minutes to do them per table, wedding quests expect them, it's only about 30 shots, and your mom wants them. Honestly, I'll never put them in an album, but it's nice to have the photo memories of who was there (even if it's only to prove that Uncle Joey was WASTED after the cocktail hour).

Re: Table Photos
we did them...didn't take too long, the only problem was our cp's were kinda high so we had to get some ppl on one half of the table to move to on side...
in retrospect i think i rather have people come to the b&g table to take pictures..it looks nicer!

I don't know if this is too tacky for your taste, but you could put disposable cameras on each table so the guest can take pictures of themselves. I've seen that done before.
I have also seen a poem on the table that says something like 'If you took any pictures of our big day, please feel free to send them our way!'
Another idea is to have a polaroid guest book. Guests take pictures of themselves (or you could designate someone to do that, I guess). They place their photo in the book and write a special message to the bride and groom.
I just thought of another one. You could have your bridal party each take turns taking one table out into the hallway to take a picture of the people at that table. This way, nobody is spending hours taking pictures of everyone. It is a 5 minute commitment.

Re: Table Photos
these are all great ideas! I dont mind having the photographer take the pics, I know they dont take too long. Maybe the photog can just take them standing soemwhere else and not at the table? I'm definatly going to ask for a group shot of everyone on the dance floor taken from the balcony above but thats hard to really see individuals.

Re: Table Photos
My friends got married May of 2007 and had the photographer take a group shot of all the guests at the end of the wedding out on the dance floor one posed and one not...
It came out really nice (not cheesy), and I liked the idea I might steal it

I hate table shots too, as almost everyone I know doesn't want to have their picture taken with half-eaten food around, or worse yet, still chewing! I'm into pretty backgrounds, and you're right, the tables never look good like that!
However, I was at a wedding where instead of taking the photo with everyone gathered AROUND the table, the photographer just asked a few people sitting on the other side of the table to get up and move to the side of the table with everyone else, so some people were sitting, some were standing. The people who were sitting moved out their chairs a bit so they weren't facing the table, more like facing outward from the table, and it was more like a 'class-photo' type of lineup. It worked out much better. No table in the way, no half-eaten food in the foreground, no one uncomfortable having their picture taken while eating or capturing how much or how little food was on the plates. It actually didn't take much time at all to assemble everyone, and from what I noticed (I ALWAYS notice the photographers, since I used to develop my own B&Ws), no one seemed to mind moving around to take the pictures. This idea may be a compromise for you and your mom.

Re: Table Photos
depending on venue and set up of venue, your photog can get a picture of all the guests at once. ive seen these pics and theyre really cute. my sis has some and im trying to find the pics now. ill post if i can find.
eta: can only find the ones taken after ceremony, but there was a good one at the RH too. a group pic of everyone from above/balcony.

I agree. Take them before. Guests don't want to be interrupted during dinner and therfore you wont have any food on the table and everyone's clothes will still be on

Re: Table Photos
We didn't have ours take them for those same reasons and its one of our BIGGEST regrets of the entire wedding. We are missing photos of people b/c they either weren't photographed at all or they were in bad shots that were part of the rejects (closed eyes, etc).
Your photographer will be able to take them in the right way so that food won't be showing. But honestly, have them do it so you have a picture of everyone. I really wish we had.

Re: Table Photos
I asked my photog to take table shots and he said he really didn't like them and guests didn't like to get posed - - move a little closer etc etc.
but I got shots of everyone!. he did go to the tables but he took closeups of couples. some were before food was served and others later when dessert was on the table so the wedding cake plates were nice. guests he didn't catch at the tables he took on the dance floor during our first dance or for the anniversary dance. so we were happy with these. maybe some of these ideas could work for you.

Re: Table Photos
our photographer got 2 great shots looking out into the crowd during the ceremony...it pretty much gets most of our guests...we used the pics as a spread in our album
