Tables

Is it customary to have 1 side of the room have tables of one family and the other to be for the other family?

Thats what FMIl wants but they have tons more tables than us and it will look more obvious the way the room is set up. Is anyone mixing the tables?

Yes, normally the left side of the room is the groom's family and the right is the bride's. But my husband had twice as many guests as me, so tables 1, 3, 5 we mine and 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 were his. It worked out fine.
